Fun family vacation staying at the Menger.

If ever there was an OMG moment, it was when I realized that I accidentally booked us the most haunted hotel in Texas! My kids and I all love everything spooky related. We had been upset about having to cut our beach vacation short due to hurrican Beryl. We decided to finish out our vacay in San Antonio and booked the first hotel I found. The amazing thing is that we had planned a ghost & cemetery tour in Galveston. Finding out the history of The Menger Hotel AFTER I booked it... we knew it was meant to be! The people were all wonderful and helpful. The mango ice cream in the Colonial Room is every bit as good as its hype. We just about cleaned out The Sisters Grimm store and the walking Ghost Tour we took with them was worth every penny. My kids and I were up at 3:00 excitedly looking for ghosts. Sadly, we didnt see any. This time. You'd better believe we're coming back!

The staff were kind and friendly. Marie at the front desk was helpful and informative. The hotel was clean and the rooms were lovely. The Alamo is right next door, as is Rivercenter shopping with access to Riverwalk. The area is very walkable, with lots of shopping & dining options close by. My family & I absolutely loved San Antonio and would choose Menger again on out next visit.

I’ll add a few positives since it was a nice hotel. Huge room that stayed really cold. Heat didn’t work so glad it wasn’t winter. Very clean room and pool area. Pool with huge chess board was fun. Workout area facing pool which is nice to watch the kids. Food was tasty and customer service was okay. They charged me for a kids spring break bag since I booked through a third party and not directly which I thought was a little cheapskate. I’m not sure why everyone raved on in the reviews about the valet though cause my car was returned with a huge crack in the front window that I still have not heard back on. I’m truly upset about this and hope it doesn’t end up being a legal issue. The cars are also kept in an open lot so my car was filthy dirty with bird poop, leaves, moss, and yellow pollen. For the price of the valet they should at the very least hose down the car before return. I would suggest finding the closest covered parking which isn’t that far away and parking there overnight.

The stay was terrible, no air conditioner, refrigerator was not working. The family was sweating all night. I reported the following day and never got a called from the manager.

The Menger is historic so the ambiance is great; however the mattress is lumpy and a wall of power outlets didn’t work including Tv , lights & fridge; they did not clean our room unless we asked; broken curtain pulls; just a bit dilapidated for the price we paid; the colonial cafe is processed food with terrible coffee … they need to get at least a Nespresso machine for coffee ! And the perfume diffuser scent is way too strong ! Time it down bc it gave me allergy’s & my family headaches !

The property was nice however the room was very small and the bed was terrible.It was like sleeping on a very lumpy mattress.The noise level wasnt too good either you could hear the people and their kids way too noisey and trains running all night.This is the 3rd time I have stayed here and this was the worst time

Beautiful hotel with a ton of history. Was excellent to have a drink in the Menger Bar where Teddy Roosevelt has been. Fantastic location right next to the Alamo, and quick access to the Riverwalk and the Riverwalk shopping center. Great stay for our family vacation!

Room was not very clean, very dusty. AC did not work correctly. Humid and warm even with ac set to 65. Only got down to 72. Room was limited on supplies for guest. Fridge did not even keep food cold. Service desk was very pleasent and Valet parking was very convenient. Nice atmosphere and beautiful building but not worth the price for me. I will probably not be going back myself. Or recommending my family or friend either.

Nice place for Christmas season, I go with big family and happy because they have connecting room so we can stay together and more fun
