Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Grand Rapids

We had a wonderful breakfast with top notch service at The Bistro. Great location with easy walking distance to the Van Andel via skywalk or on street sidewalks. Front desk personnel were helpful upon checkout but were not so at check in. When we inquired about pool hours prior to our arrival; they shared that the pool was closed for renovation. When I shared how disappointed our grandchildren would be, they shared that we could use the pool at the Amway Grand Hotel. Upon arrival they seemed confused and shared that their pool was open but did not share how to access it. When I called to inquire about the pool’s location, the response was second floor. I asked if it would obvious where the pool was on that floor. The response was “if you had trouble finding it, there was something wrong with you”. One of the two rooms we booked were provided with breakfast vouchers. Our second room was not but the front desk supervisor made it right after my inquiry.

We had to make last minute reservations for 3 adults and 5 kids after the hotel we originally booked was very unclean, no working AC, and the pool did not look good. The courtyard staff was incredibly nice and upgraded us to a suite to try help us feel better. The faculty was very clean and easily assessable.

The room was fantastic, but the whole reason we booked the room was to have our kids be able to swim. The pool was cold and the hot tub was out of order and drained. No one wanted to swim for long.

I booked a 2 queen, 1 sofa bed room. When I arrived they put me in a King with a single sofa pullout. They claimed to be sold out, refused to provide any other option - and claimed that it was Expedia's fault for the confusion. Also - the hot tub was drained and not working (even though it was stated to be working in all advertisements). We asked for 2 roll aways to accomodate our 3 teenagers 2 parents for sleeping arrangments and they refused to give more than 1 rollaway (even though the room itself was huge). We eventually decided to leave, and they did not charge us for the room. We stayed at a much nicer property in Grand Rapids for $30 additional and enough sleeping space for the family of 5.
