We had a small gathering of family the evening before a much larger family gathering at a farm which is located a short distance from the Publick House. Our dinner in the Old Tap Room was excellent. The service was great. Some of were staying over in rooms in the motor lodge, which was convenient, clean, and comfortable. This was our second time staying there.

What a neat property! We were just here for a room before going to tour a college 40 min away the next day, but I wish we had more time to stay! The different buildings, a restaurant, bakery (yum, we bought several items to take home for Easter dinner), and even adorable baby chicks in an incubator! Wish we had time to check out Old Sturbridge Village too.

The publick house in Sturbridge is super convenient if you are going to the Brimfield flea market. (Held three times a year). There are a few front buildings and four buildings in the back. I stayed in the third building in the back. I was very disappointed with this room. Almost $200 per night!!! The mattress was very old. I could feel the springs!!! The furniture was old and dated. The cable was very difficult to figure out for an average technical person. Not enough plugs in this room. The tub and shower was old, dated and small. No sink in the bathroom although there was a counter for one. Only three hangers. The chairs were squeaky and creaked when sitting in them. The nightstand was stained and needed replacing. Killed a couple of bugs, but to be fair this room was up in the woods and they were probably just visiting the rooom when the door was opened and closed for loading suitcases in and out. The room was very, very damp. There was a patio which I didn’t use since it was so hot. I was able to drive right up to the room which was a plus. AC worked fine. Water was hot. Ate at the restaurant one night and the food was very bland. The service was good and the people there were very pleasant. Had a very bad conversation with the room manager when I wanted to leave one night early for a family emergency. I had to become very demanding to get her to let me leave one night early without paying for the final night.

The pool was closed the day we arrive until the next day 1 pm. (Pool was the reason why we stay here.) The room looks very old and smells dust (very very strong dust smell) They have only free pastry and coffee/tea as breakfast. And beds are so small. IDK what kind of queen bed this is, since I cannot fit in the bed with my 2 yo baby. I would not stay here again. Only beautiful thing is the front desk building and AC in the room, other than that it is like an ok motel.

We were there just for a one night stay headed home from our family vacation in Maine. The room was spacious, clean, and check in ...everyone was so friendly. The only down fall was no mini fridge. We ate at the restaurant there (awesome) and visited the bakery. (added bonus) I wished we would have gotten there sooner that afternoon so we could have enjoyed the pool!!!

We had a fantastic time and were surprised at how fun the property is. We enjoyed exploring the area, the concert in the park across the street and the kids most enjoyed the on-site bakery and the pool. The room is basic but had all that we needed. There is no fridge or microwave in the rooms but they had a microwave for use in the corner of the bakery. That solved our problem. Will return if we’re ever in the area.

I was really disappointed with how dirty our carpet was and also the fact that our hot water didn’t work. When I told the front desk, she said it was because the hotel was too full. She also said she couldn’t do anything for me because I booked with Expedia. On top of that, there was no free breakfast there was only free coffee. This was a very disappointing experience for my family and I.

A pleasant Historic Inn with a great staff. My kids enjoyed the pool. Bakery products in the breakfast is a big bonus.

You won’t find a more beautiful and historic location from which to base your Brimfield antiques shopping excursion! Honestly, everything was great except for the miserable checking experience. The young woman behind the desk was unengaged and uninterested in resolving a mix up in reservations. I had requested two rooms in the Chamberlain house and got one in one building, and another in Chamberlain. Mom is 82 and I needed to be close. You would think I had asked her to negotiate Middle East peace. Expressionless and without any empathy just glared at me and said, call Expedia. Wow. Another employee eventually helped and she realized all she had to do was move the room. The rates were the same, and were available, so why so intransigent? I gave feedback that I didn’t appreciate the lack of engagement, zero friendliness, and no thank-you, but I was speaking to a robot. Other than that, the room was beautiful, food and wait staff were excellent. Parking is easy. Free coffee and tea. Plenty of ice. Nice tv. Great location and ambience. Oh, and it is haunted in case you like that, lol. I did not have any visits, but heard of the frequent experiences, such as soldier apparitions by the hearth in the restaurant. Anyway, go! It’s a treasure. Train the front desk junior staff to solve problems and engage, smile, and say thank you for spending $170 on each room, when there are many choices!
