Great stay for a couple! Would stay again, affordable and close to everything downtown (10 min walk) - not sure how it would be for kids but we loved the stay.

Building is very old but ok. In the bathroom, the shower is very small. It was a short walking distance to the Beacon Hills park and children animal farm. Very quiet, nice area, right on the Goverment street a 2 min walk to Emily Carr's historical house. Onside restaurant was delicious.

Enjoyed our stay and would recommend the James Bay Inn to friends and family. The staff were wonderful, always helpful with a smile. Easy, beautiful walk to downtown thru historic Victoria. The restaurant and pub were both great, food was excellent.

This is the place to go! The minute you walk in, you feel part of the family. Our rooms were bright, pretty, clean and comfortable. We liked the big common terraces and the bright, wide corridors where we could sit and chat. We found that the restaurant offered good, affordable choices whether for breakfast or other meals, and we enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the pub. All the staff members we dealt with were helpful and friendly. We are already looking for a pretext to visit Victoria, just for the pleasure of staying again!

Myself and other family members have enjoyed numerous stays at the JBI over the past dozen years. It’s one of our favorite hotels in Victoria and testament to its charm and character, excellent location, great value, and wonderful staff!

Awesome hotel in the heart of James Bay. Historic building was super cool with nooks and crannies and lounging places on every floor. The floors were not totally level, which was charming. The bathroom shower was super small and not a great shower head. Loved having a fridge in the room. Visited with 3 small children and had a blast!!

Beautiful old hotel in the the nicest neighbourhood in the city. Rooms are a bit small compared to larger, newer hotels but this is made up for by charm. Staff were very friendly and helpful and it was great being so close and walkable to downtown Victoria without actually being in the downtown! Nice little restaurant as well. Would stay again and recommend to family and friends.

Friendliness of staff, family atmosphere. No "fluff", simple and genuine ambience, serenity with beautiful, dated surroundings. Absolutely love this place and will definitely return here time and time again.

I always stay at the JBI whenever I am in Victoria, British Columbia! I always feel like I've just arrived home to be with family. The location, the cozy room, the pub and restaurant, all contribute to it being "a happening".
