Courtyard by Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront South

The 1 bedroom ocean view suite was perfect for our family getaway.

The check-in process was horrible. Arrived 2 hours early and was put on waitlist. Then came back around 4pm and was told room is not ready by the the woman at the front desk. So I stood to the side. In the other line my sister-in-law was checking in who had just arrived with her family and was told that her room just ready by the the gentleman who was assisting her. I asked the gentleman to confirm whether it was my room and asked for the last name, both my sister- in -law and I have the same last name but my last name is hyphenated. He kept on just saying just part of the name. He ran her credit card . Again I gave him my full name and finally he stayed it was my room. Why did he NOT confirm the full name because running her credit card and agyuing with both of us. And why did the lady just tell me my room was not ready. Additionally, there was a lot of dust on the countertops and desk in the room. One evening I asked for a hair dryer because the one in the room was not working; I was told they would bring it shortly but they never showed up. Customer service has declined. Best thing about the hotel was it was on the boardwalk and I had an oceanfront view.

I have vacationed at this property often for the past 15 years. I never had a complaint. This visit was not worth the $3,146.70 I spent. the room smelled of urine, the tub looks old and discolored, bugs were flying around in the bathroom and sink area and whoever had the room before me had a child or person urinate on the pull out sofa cushion..The cushion had been turned over and thats the way the room was presented to me. Was it even cleaned? Did the housekeeper turn the cushion over ? Did she even check it? It had not been reporteduntil I reported it. I cleaned the room and the bathroom.

We enjoyed our stay recently at this property. Wonderful location. Sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. The room was clean. Did not use the pool, too many kids! Kept our car parked for the duration; since parking was at a premium.

I made my reservation a month in advance to take my kids for their first overnight for Father's Day. My reservation was originally at the Courtyard Virginia Beach Oceanfront/South and was moved to the Hyatt House Virginia Beach. I was told in an email that there was an issue at the hotel and they had to move me. I called before driving down from Richmond and confirmed with the original hotel and was told all has been set up and taken care of. I get to Hyatt House and go to check in to find out they had no idea what I was talking about. The manager and assistant manager were very apologetic and great to work with and within 30 minutes the had set me up in Courtyard Marriot North because Hyatt was completely booked. Understandable being a weekend and Fathers Day Weekend. No problem, my young kids are tired and hungry so we proceeded to the 3rd hotel. We get there and again the people at the front desk are great and very helpful. I paid for a ocean view with 2 queen beds. I got 1 Queen and a pull out couch. I go to show my kids the view off the balcony and the door is so hard to slide my 10 year old could not move it. I pull the sofa bed open and the mattress was so bad you could not lay on it. My son goes to turn the TV on and it does not work. I call down and ask for a roll away bed for me and if they could send someone up to fix the TV. They got the TV on and was told not to turn the TV off because it may not turn back on. Elevator, ice machine, lamps broken.

Property could use some upgrades, but the staff was very friendly, and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The hotel was clean and every room was ocean front with a balcony. Rooms are spacious with internet tv (great if you are traveling with kids!) No outdoor pool but you are right on the beachfront. Also walking distance to restaurants and bars.
