4 out of 5 stars

We recently took a mini staycation in Castroville to get away from the city and traffic. Although it was a short drive from San Antonio, we felt like we were miles away from everything. The hotel is small but it is everything you need. The landscaping was wonderful. The flowers were in full bloom and there were butterflies everywhere. We especially enjoyed the property cats. The kids loved having the pool to themselves. Although I gave the hotel 3 stars for cleanliness, the rooms weren’t dirty. They were just dated and could use some new linens and curtains. The hotel receptionists, landscaper and housekeeper were all very pleasant and helpful. The town had everything we needed. We found a wonderful coffee shop, plant shop, Italian restaurant, Alsatian bakery and theater. We’ll definitely be back!! Thank you!

I was so disappointed about our stay here. The pool was not well kept and had not been cleaned probably since winter. Our beds were incredible uncomfortable and loud. Every move you made, it would wake up our toddler... I mean LOUD. The location was nice, you our 30 minutes outside of SA so if you plan on doing things in SA every day keep that in mind. It was very peaceful and nice scenery, but I was thoroughly disappointed in our room.

The reason I gave 4 stars even though everything was perfect, is because that there was no breakfast available. The restaurant opens at 11am and closes at 7pm. This made our stay a little inconvenient especially with kids.

I was in Castroville for a class reunion. My room had the most amazing view of the valley. The hotel staff was the best ever. Christin and (I can’t remember her name) and the hotel manager who was extremely attentive and accommodating all made me feel like I had come home! It felt like I had known them for years, like family. They remember your name! The restaurant was amazing. Staff was fabulous, food and cocktails were delicious and the view breathtaking. I did notice the ceiling under a couple porch areas appeared to have water leaks and rotten wood in need of repair. Otherwise, the grounds were well maintained and lovely. Word of warning, you can hear traffic sounds from the highway, but it was not bothersome to me. I slept very well. I highly recommend this hotel. It’s so quaint, relaxing and enjoyable. I can’t wait to come back!

The wife and I were looking for an escape away from the city and the kids. This place was a great find. The room was nice, the bed was comfortable and the food at the Bistro was really good, although pricey! I was disappointed that the Barrel Room bar wasn't open. I was looking forward to hanging out there to watch some sports and relax. I'm guessing they only have it open during football season but you'd think given summer time is "wedding season" and this hotel caters to that, the bar would be in full swing. Oh well! Good experience overall.
