Best Western Carowinds

We were in a crowd at Carowinds for the fireworks and I got emails and phone calls that I of course missed that the property was "unable to honor our reservations" and that the stay was canceled. They had zero issues taking our money a month ahead of time, canceling LITERALLY at the 11th hour, leaving a family group of 8 with nowhere to stay yet here it is a week after cancellation and there is still no refund.

Our recent stay at the Best Western Hotel was underwhelming, to say the least. We usually don't expect extravagance from a regular hotel chain like this, just a comfortable place to sleep and a decent breakfast in the morning. However, the hotel failed to meet even these basic expectations. The breakfast experience was particularly disappointing. The options were severely limited—no omelets available, and the waffle iron was so burnt that it was unusable. Additionally, essentials like milk for cereal or even yogurt were missing, leaving very little for children or anyone wanting a lighter start to the day. The only available items were bacon, some other meats, possibly sauce, syrup, two pastries, along with coffee and juice. Considering the room rate was $150, the breakfast offered felt insufficient. Observing other guests, it seemed many were just settling for a cup of coffee and a piece of bacon or sausage, which is unacceptable at this price point. A decent breakfast is important to us, especially when traveling with a child, as it saves time and allows us to start our day smoothly. Instead, we ended up spending an additional $120 on breakfast at another location, which was not only inconvenient but also an unexpected increase in our travel expenses. On the positive side, the hotel was clean, free from bugs, insects, or any unhygienic conditions, which is consistent with what one might expect from Best Western. My family and I enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a great location and is very close to Carowinds. The room was nice, the man at the front desk was very friendly. Check in and check out were easy. My only complaint was that the room was hot. The air conditioner was working, but just couldn't get the room cool. We bought two fans and were able to sleep at night.

Small flying bugs in shower, not gnats. Running water smelled like ammonia. Front desk staff was mad because I asked for late check out due to my family being affected by the hurricane. She was very rude and shook her head as if I was asking too much. Not the best stay.
