While some rooms may show signs of age, many guests praise the cleanliness, the local products used, and the comfortable beds. Families should note that while the hotel is kid-friendly with available games and activities, it may not be ideal for families with very young children due to the design of some rooms and potential noise issues. The basic room is gorgeous and spacious(for a hotel room!). VERY clean. The products provided are local. Really liked the open yet private concept of the bathroom. Perfect for a couple(but probably not ideal for a family, etc.) They even provide Middleton Blend K-cups. Plenty of space to put your open luggage. Pool towels provided! Happy hour was very nice. Great drinks and the live music was wonderful. Charcuterie provided was simple but good. Try the pickled okra and pimento cheese! Breakfast was very good. Cheesy grits, real bacon and pure maple syrup jars were my highlights. We thoroughly enjoyed walking the grounds and felt the walk to the restaurant was not "long". I wouldn't wear heels on the walk but the inn specifically states this(as it seems others have had an issue). We stayed here for two nights to get away from the hustle and bustle. The semi-submergence in nature drew me in and was idyllic after an army graduation we attended prior. Only issue was it seemed someone tried to hack my phone while connected to Wi-fi. We were pretty much the only ones in the building when I got the alert someone logged into an account in SC. Possibly staff?

First, the praise. 1. The staff were all very wonderful. 2. The manager's reception held in the lodge is a nice touch. 3. Even though the accommodations give the impression that they don't really want kids there, it is kid friendly with games and activities available. Since this review is about the hotel and not the grounds, that's it for praise. Where does one start when one is so disappointed. Maybe our experience was unique to our room. We hope so and we hope that a major upgrade is planned for the very near future Our room 214 was worn out and tired. Old fixtures throughout. The room design in general is stark, painted concrete walls with little to break the harshness. Then in seemingly an attempt to soften the look we found two rag rugs that try to bring about a country look. Old wood cabinetry that was probably from the original 1987 construction is your dresser. The room is full of windows with shutters as the window treatment. Ours had many broken louvers. And if darkness for sleeping is important be aware that our room had and entire panel of unshaded opaque glass that let in lots of light. The bed is comfy, The hide-a-bed is fine for kids. Teens and adults would find it uncomfortable. The bathroom is large but all open and there is no shower curtain. Again, old fixtures and we found many broken tiles. It comes down to they charge a premium price but provide a run down room.

Property was beautiful and it was clear the grounds Keepers cared about doing a good job. Staff very warm and friendly. Room clean and well cared for since built with only minor wear showing. Major issue was a family with two small children above us running, slamming doors, and dragging furniture across the wooden floors from 6am until after midnight. It was like staying in a college dorm but worse. Since it was pouring rain we couldn't go out to the gardens as much as we had planned. I think the hotel needs to make sure not to put families with children above those staying for relaxation - it ruined the stay. If I hadn't spent so much money on the reservation I would have left. The mattress was also very poor even though the linens were high quality. Be sure to ask for a top floor room!
