Overview

The River Hotel in Southport offers a wonderful family getaway. Families will appreciate the well-maintained property with a swimming pool and a private beach area right on the river. The hotel's location is perfect, within walking distance of the town's shops and restaurants. While rooms themselves may not have direct river views, the convenient access to the river and the pool area more than compensate. Many guests particularly enjoy the family-sized fridges and kitchenettes in the rooms, ideal for longer stays. A near new hotel property in perfect condition. Everything new and shiny. Great beds. End of building faces the Cape Fear river, but the rooms dont have any real views. Nice Swimming pool on property, and direct access to river beach. Only a short walk into the delightful historic town streets of Southport. They had a band playing next to the pool 4-6 pm, and often have food truck on site also. Ideally set up for longer holiday stays, with family size fridges and kitchens - although the only cooking appliance is the microwave, which is a bit odd. A delightful holiday hotel.

Location is great & within minutes of many restaurants. Staff was friendly. We did see two hairs on the sheets but felt they were probably just from house keeping making the bed not due to dirty sheets. We tend to take our own sheets anyway so wasn't a huge issue. Shower water pressure was very strong, hot water was adequate. "private beach" is just a sandy area with a TON of shells on the sand & in the water making it useless as far as getting in the water. Pool is adequate for kids-goes up to 4 1/2 feet but is small. We were content staying there & would probably stay again.

The property was well maintained with a great deck and pool area right on the river. It is very close to town, which has plenty of shops and restaurants as well as a riverfront park. The only negative was that an alligator had been spotted on the property, so we could not take our grandkids out onto and enjoy the beach area.

The River Hotel was the perfect place for a weekend getaway with our little family. The room was spotless and the bed was so comfortable. The pool and beach area were quiet and private. The staff was great! Very convenient to downtown.

This was an interesting property as it is not really a hotel..it is more like renting a condo with maid service. The office is a small building located at the entrance of the property and is manned approx. 16 hours out of the day. The rooms are set up like an extended stay hotel and have all the appliances you need to for a cook a meal, toast a bagel or freeze a fish. The location has one building with approx. 10 units on each floor (two floors) stay on the top floor and ask for a unit close to the pool or Cape Fear River aka better views. A second building is being constructed on the property so there might be some construction activity. The property has a large deck for something -maybe for future use and a nice little pool with a gazebo and a small beach near by. I saw a sign on the beach "beware of alligators" so keep one-eye open when you nap. The location is about a 10 minute walk to the center of South Port. The city is quaint and has some decent restaurants but due to covid-19 there are limitations on availability. The closest beach is Oak Island, which is a gem and is very family friendly. All and all not a bad trip or place to stay.
