Holiday Inn Express Mackinaw City, an IHG Hotel

I have been coming to Mackinaw City for decades. The hotels have been slowly going downhill on Huron Ave. I was hesitant on where to stay this trip, and even more so since I had to bring my Emotional Support Animal. Many hotels on Huron denied me due to the dog, and I’m honestly glad they did, because I found the Holiday Inn Express after being denied on Huron ave. Let me start by saying that the Holiday Inn staff was so friendly and accommodating. The room and common areas were all extremely clean, and the pool area was super nice. Every staff member I encountered was so nice. I had great conversations with a few and felt at home! Not only are they a pet friendly option in Mackinaw, but they go above and beyond to be inclusive of pet parents. Every door has a Dog waste bag station! Finally, a pet friendly hotel in mackinaw that is actually clean and nice!! Worth every penny, I’ll never stay at another hotel in Mackinaw City again. It may not be right on the water, but you’re seconds from downtown and the bridge, and the traffic is much lighter than it is staying on the main strip! Peaceful vacation spot for families and pet families! I truly appreciate how accommodating they are for travelers with pets.

The room was clean and beds were comfortable. Nice pool area for family. Overall place was clean. Breakfast had a good variety. Would definitely stay again.

It seemed just fine. I wouldn't recommend going to Mackinaw City in March - literally, nothing is open. Only one expensive restaurant. Nothing for kids to do but swim at the hotel pool.

Staff was excellent. The pool was very nice and enjoyable for the kids. Breakfast was great with a lot of selections. Balcony room on the 4th floor was nice and rooms were comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Lobby was full of the hotel staff having a loud and obnoxious staff party. Lots of liquor and shouting during our check-in which some then carried into the pool area afterwards. The pool was rundown and absolutely filthy. Feces in the pool which one staff member pointed out by loudly using expletives to describe it in front of guests including children. Huge disappointment.

I resevered a join room, drive 5 hours during a storm snow so me and my family can enjoy some us time. We arrived at 1230 I stop at the hotel to make sure everything was good for us to check in at 3pm, the lady stated rooms aren’t clean yet until 3 so I took my family across the bridge to sight see. We get back at 330 and room still wasn’t ready, again I stop by at 1230 and it was stated rooms aren’t ready til 3pm. So at 330pm finding about still not available I stated what should I do. The young lady allowed us to sit in the pool area til room was ready. 10 minutes after walking away from desk I was told room was ready (NOT JOIN ROOM) we get upstairs and it wasn’t what I reserved so I had to return to the desk. Took me 45 extra minutes to get what I reserved. Tha e ladies in the morning help us as much as possible. We leave to get dinner get back to room and Fred gentlemen working night shift called the police on us talking about we were fight, NO WARNINGS, NO CALL OR NOT EVEN A KNOCK ON THE DOOR before police were called. I believe from the time we walked in til the time we walked out it was all RACISM due to us being color and all grown women. Me and my family will never visit NORTH again due to so many racism problems still in 2022.

My family had a blast. It was a birthday trip for my husband and a spring break treat for our 2 kids. We will be coming back.
