Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Chicago-Algonquin, an IHG Hotel

Very clean and a family friendly hotel located in a very nice area

Staff at hotel has been TERRIBLE each time I or another family member have stayed. Didn’t realize we both booked a second time and will NEVER book this hotel again!

Loved the hotel.. big room with plenty of room! The only problem was we were in a room Next to the pool and the kids where very loud and slamming the door and stayed past pool hours. It’s not the hotels fault. It was the parents of the kids had no concern for other people

- no hot water - no high chair for children - walls in elevator are holding with duct tape - strong smell of humidity in the room - no towels at the pool

I had the worst hotel experience ever. I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again. It started with a bait and switch. I reserved a 2 bed suite and ended up with a 1 bed suite. After switching rooms to a 2 bed and an additional cot we found dried blood on the curtains. When I called down to reception Angela said there was nothing they could do, there are no other rooms available. She also said they didn't have any spare curtains. Luckily there was another woman at reception who was kind enough to come up and clean them. In the meantime, Angela called the police on us and wanted us out of the hotel. 3 police officers came to the room with me my 3 kids and my 90-year-old mother saying the hotel would like us to leave. They also said we didn't do anything wrong and didn't have to leave. One of the officers was kind enough to call around to see if we could get a room at another hotel but there wasn't anything available. The next day our original room became available.

Our toilet had not been completely cleaned. I politely let the front desk staff know right away, and the clerk was aloof. He did arrange for a new room, which had a strong musty smell and dirty carpet. The trash had not been emptied, the furniture was dusty, and in the bathroom there was just one towel and no soap or conditioner. I had two tired young kids with me and was frustrated by the situation. I called the front desk and was told I could move back to the first room because someone had cleaned the toilet. I did not trust their ability or interest in cleaning either room. The clerk and his supervisor acted like I was being unreasonable for not wanting to return to the room with the soiled toilet. They were completely unwilling to help the situation. In addition, the workout room was incredibly stuffy and had outdated, barely working equipment. The breakfast was OK for a free hotel breakfast. I would NOT choose to stay here again!

The pool was under construction, which was very disappointing to our family. Staff was unhelpful and not terribly friendly.

The pool was closed, which we didn’t know before our arrival, so our children were playing in the room. It was before 8pm and we had a staff member knock on our door saying there were people complaining we were too loud. They were literally coloring with crayons and playing charades before 8pm on a Saturday. We were disappointed that we constantly had to tell our children to whisper and sit down because of the complaint, when they were just trying to have an exciting stay in a hotel.
