How magical to wake up in the morning to see the sun rising over Diamond Head and end the day sipping a Mai Tai at the Hau Tree Lanai. The Kaimana- a hotel I have known since childhood in the 1970s - is back in a fun, funky/retro jewel of a hotel at the far end of Waikiki. The hotel staff could not have been nicer or more attentive. The Mai Tais could not have been more potent or delicious. My only critique is the bath towels also were a bit retro and reminded me of what we used in our high school gym locker room circa 1981. A bit more thread count would go along way...

The property is right on the beach. It is less crowded than near Waikiki. The area at the beach is protected by reefs and is not as turbulent of a surf. Great area for SUPs, swimmers, snorklers, and families with young kids. Would definitely recommend to family and friends. It is more of a walk to food, restaurants, and parking is expensive. The hotel itself is not modern or updated. It is nice and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Very disappointed… the entire beach front was shut down so I was unable to sunbathe or swim on the beach due to a baby seal that had been born. Yes I am happy the wildlife is protected however I thought it was unprofessional that the staff did not notify guests prior to arrival. I paid for an ocean front suite for the sole purpose of being able to walk down to the beach just steps away but instead has to walk 25 mins into downtown onto crowded beaches . I would have stayed in Ko Olina. I am more so upset because I did reach out about this via email and it has been 5 days and I have not received a response … No water is provided in the room. Towels are scratchy. The shower curtain did not properly fit the shower and there was no liner to the shower curtain either so it just got soaked while showering and the entire bathroom floor would get soaked every time… Upon leaving the staff was very aggressive about me checking out they called the room to see if I needed help with the bags and someone even knocked after and asked . I just wanted to pack up and leave my trip in peace not be harassed. Then a maid knocked at 10:55 check out was not until 11. When asking for recommendations for restaurants the desk staff was not very helpful.

Nice boutique class of hotel. Views from room of Waikiki were stunning. Room was tight for space and on the small size. Difficult to manage and access two suitcases. Restaurant and bar food and drink selection was limited in scope and was pricey. Items seemed to more directed for sharing than for individuals. Unable to use the beach as was fenced off due to the Monk seal baby birth situation. One of the reasons we chose to stay at this hotel was because of the access and location to beach area. Obviously disappointed ad this was not accessible. Hotel charged a resort fee for beach chair, towels and bikes. As unable to use the beach felt that the hotel should have offered some kind of credit for none use due to the situation or have charged only for days if chair or towels were used.

As a couple we travel widely for both business and travel to new places so we have our own rating system. Good blackout curtains that worked. Check. Slow close toilet seat...Check Non Skid bath or Octomat...Check No extraneous light in the room when lights off...we did have to cover the modem and router. Modern quiet AC...Kaimana has excellent Fujitsu units but some weird system that keeps turning it back on while you are asleep...Not so good. Hot water...we were in the Low rise Studios in front of the main Hotel and it took beyond 5 minutes to get hotwater to our room curiously this rarely changed even with our wing with many guests and at a huge waste of water with Oahu about to impose restrictions. The thing you cant beat about Kaimana is its location right ON Kaimana Beach and the new refurb of all the main Hotel public areas and new service format is really great. The bar area now compliments the Hau Tree Lanai so we never had to wait in a line. Service is also way better than before. One of us has stayed at Kaimana many times since about 1976 and this is the best its been, however they do need to continue the good work on the Lanais now that the rooms are so nice..

The room we stayed in #301 had holes and marks on the wall, was old and it was a struggle to get housekeeping to make the pullout bed for the kids. Everything was a hassle and not easy.
