4 out of 5 stars
I always believe in balanced reviews. Take out the top few and bottom few and you’ll be largely fine.
So I’ll make this balanced.
The location is super for the tourist areas. Absolutely no complaints.
The rooms are super, again no complaints. Larger comfortable and to the standard you’d expect. With great personality. As is the hotel. It has a super personality with the decoration, and outside area.
The outside and indoor games area are super for kids, and adults alike! With the outdoor fires for cooking Smores a super idea. Also they are not precious about you bringing outdoor food and drink in to eat which is great.
So you may ask, why have I given it a 4 out of 5 overall?
They have a policy of charging a $35 a night ‘resort fee’. When people ask, they say it is for free coffee in the room and in the reception area, use of the games area and gym. All the things all hotels would see as part of a room rate. The staff are embarrassed and said it is a major cause for complaint. They lean on the fact that it is stated in the T&C’s of the booking sites. Which it is, but people assume it is tax. It isn’t. And isn’t optional.
The hotel management should be honest and say it for what it is. It is to make the night price look cheaper on price comparison sites. I get it. But it is all a bit underhand that leaves a bit of a bad taste, which is a shame.
Saying that, I wouldn’t not book because of it, just be aware.
A bit naughty of the hotel. Which is a shame given everything else.

I’ve stayed here once before about 5 years ago. It was nice but even better this time around. Location was perfect and from hotel.com I really appreciate the extra $29 ish credit that it gave me for their parking garage. It was there last time I remembered. Also they gave us free s’mores which my kids loved. Will come back again next time. Staff were also super friendly.

Great location to explore SF. Close to public transportation and walking distance to many attractions. The game rooms and patios were a fun addition. Would prefer a room with windows that open… would opt for the balcony next time but we had a great view of Alcatraz. Reception and concierge were friendly and we were able to store our bags before check in and departure. Would recommend for a family for sure.

I loved all the fun gaming areas and fore pits with smore stuff. It is a great place for families. The one issue: they can only accomodate a family of four. We have five, two adults and three kiddos. It is a bummer we cant stay with our little family unless we get another room which is too pricey for us.

Had a great stay at Hotel Zephyr with my wife and 8 year old daughter. Very family friendly hotel with lovely outdoor are with fire pits and roasting s’mores. Close to Fisherman’s Wharf & some cool restaurants. Buena Vista Cafe is a must further down the road. Hotel was clean & staff friendly. Would certainly return.

The location is okay especially if you have children as there is a lot for them to do on the property. However on arrival I was not given the smores kit until I had an issue with the room I was given and it was given as a sorry and over my stay I heard them give out water bottles but not that they was refill stations but how much they charge for more. I was given a dirty room that had such a bad chemical smell it burned our eyes, then was given a room that also was not properly cleaned. I was given an upgraded room but it wasn't much better than the one I had booked. Overall if you are looking for a tourist spot this would fit you, the unlimited coffee and tea was a plus but be sure you get the amenities as I overheard different replies to travelers over the course of the 4 days I stayed. Very close to the wharf and a good location to branch out to the rest of the city. Definitely a tourist hotel though, and definitely could use some consistency in telling guests what is offered ie the discounts around the property on the Zepher walk if you are a hotel guest
