4 out of 5 stars

I always believe in balanced reviews. Take out the top few and bottom few and you’ll be largely fine. So I’ll make this balanced. The location is super for the tourist areas. Absolutely no complaints. The rooms are super, again no complaints. Larger comfortable and to the standard you’d expect. With great personality. As is the hotel. It has a super personality with the decoration, and outside area. The outside and indoor games area are super for kids, and adults alike! With the outdoor fires for cooking Smores a super idea. Also they are not precious about you bringing outdoor food and drink in to eat which is great. So you may ask, why have I given it a 4 out of 5 overall? They have a policy of charging a $35 a night ‘resort fee’. When people ask, they say it is for free coffee in the room and in the reception area, use of the games area and gym. All the things all hotels would see as part of a room rate. The staff are embarrassed and said it is a major cause for complaint. They lean on the fact that it is stated in the T&C’s of the booking sites. Which it is, but people assume it is tax. It isn’t. And isn’t optional. The hotel management should be honest and say it for what it is. It is to make the night price look cheaper on price comparison sites. I get it. But it is all a bit underhand that leaves a bit of a bad taste, which is a shame. Saying that, I wouldn’t not book because of it, just be aware. A bit naughty of the hotel. Which is a shame given everything else.

I’ve stayed here once before about 5 years ago. It was nice but even better this time around. Location was perfect and from hotel.com I really appreciate the extra $29 ish credit that it gave me for their parking garage. It was there last time I remembered. Also they gave us free s’mores which my kids loved. Will come back again next time. Staff were also super friendly.

Everything about this hotel, the location, and the amenities were great. Only thing that was not so good there was the concierge service. I wanted to inquire about Alcatraz related tours, but before I could even finish my sentence the concierge told me that the Alcatraz in-person tour had been sold out for months and she shoo-ed me away with her hands.Very curt and very unkind. I'm not a local, I don't know what all the tours are available and what I was actually interested in was the escape the Rock boat tour, which I purchased myself later. The concierge person ignored me for the rest of the time that I stood around and was extremely friendly to other families that were there. I don't know what I did to come off that way but it was as if she did not want to even look at me.

Very convenient to everything. Comfortable amemities. Accommodated my request for ajoining rooms. I wish the fire pits stayed on later, but it seemed to cater more to families with young children. Staff were very helpful and even helped my friend get a microwave delivered to her room to heat a medicine she was taking. It is extremely convenient to the Alcatraz Tours, Pier 39, the Big Bus hop on/off tours (which are an extremely pleasant way to see almost all of San Francisco), and some really delicious restaurants. Overall, it was worth the price.

Perfect location for tourists. Close to everything but more importantly transportation. Also kids friendly. Bunch of games and things to do. Parking is great but should be cheaper for the guests.

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Zephyr. The rooms are spacious (though the bathrooms are a bit small) and the beds are comfortable. The communal spaces are really what sets this hotel apart. They provide each guest with a "s'mores pass" which you redeem at the front counter and receive the supplies. They have firepits in the courtyard with comfy seats surrounding them, and we met two wonderful families that we spoke to for hours while sitting around the fire. They also have games like giant connect four, and ping pong and pool tables. It is a great place to stay for social butterflies!

Great location to explore SF. Close to public transportation and walking distance to many attractions. The game rooms and patios were a fun addition. Would prefer a room with windows that open… would opt for the balcony next time but we had a great view of Alcatraz. Reception and concierge were friendly and we were able to store our bags before check in and departure. Would recommend for a family for sure.
