La Pensione Hotel

I chose to stay at La Pensione because of it's location in Little Italy and proximity to the San Diego Airport. The location is convenient but with limited parking options. The parking lot across the street cost $70 to park overnight. The nightlife is good in Little Italy with many great restaurants but the noise is to be desired. This is an older building so you hear a lot of everything. The room was in ok shape but very, very small. This is truly a boutique hotel and maximum of two people in one room. The air conditioner did not work and was full of dust and very dated. The room was humid which was to be expected and stayed that way since the A/C did not provide any relief. The windows to the room open but there are not any screens and I was on the 4th floor. This could be super dangerous with anyone that may bring a child and wants fresh or cool air. I eventually had to close the windows because of the street noise. The bed was comfortable but in very tight quarters. The clealiness of the room is also to be desired, the edges of the carpet have not been vacuumed in who knows how long and the tops of the lights were thick with dust like the A/C was. The shower and toilet area were the nicest part of the room. There was a homeless person sleeping right outside the entrance of the hotel with cigarette butts all around. Upon check out at 3am (to catch early flight) I woke up the front desk attendant who was propped back in his chair, feet up on counter.

We stayed here a few years ago and was very pleased with our accommodations. However this time we were disappointed about the following; Tile and toilets in the washrooms needed detailed cleaning. Corners in the shower, back of the toilet seat etc. No Kleenex in the room No longer offering a continental breakfast. Brought family with us as well and had spoken very highly of the accommodations to find it was not the same standard as it was when we were here last. It is the attention to detail that makes the difference for a guest.

I had to postpone my trip due to a death in the family. The hotel could not accommodate the change, and charged me for not being able to make it.

Awful. Horrible service. Was told to find street parking from rude staff member. Had an infant in the car and 2 small children. We were unable to access hotel due to no parking. Were required to leave and drive hours to find a new hotel. AND were refused money back! Do NOT EVER stay here.

This property is literally in the heart of Little Italy. The Piazza del Famiglia is right across the street, restaurants are just steps away, the Old Town Trolley picks up a block away.... great location!! Our family had two rooms: one was a little on the small side while the other was spacious with patio access (that was the much nicer room). No room service unless requested, and the toiletries were not great quality. Front desk staff were nice, but not overly friendly. Best thing about this hotel is the location, though! If you want to stay IN Little Italy, this is the hotel.

Rooms are tiny. Air conditioner at ceiling height blows directly onto your head, making it difficult to sleep. Thin walls, was kept up by a screaming baby in the next room. Horrific fluorescent lighting by the sink.

This sweet boutique has a kind and friendly staff. Brandon at the front desk was the first to welcome me at this key location in the heart of Little Italy. He also kindly assisted me as I exited my stay. Definitely warm and safe family atmosphere here! Will return.
