Homewood Suites by Hilton Detroit

My recent stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton in Warren, Michigan, was unfortunately far from what I had anticipated. I chose this hotel specifically for its pool, as my 12-year-old daughter had been eagerly looking forward to a small birthday pool party with family. However, upon check-in, we were informed that the pool was closed and wouldn't be available for another day or two. To our dismay, further investigation revealed that the pool had been closed since the summer, and this crucial information was not mentioned anywhere on the hotel website. This was particularly disheartening as swimming was the sole request for my daughter's birthday celebration. Despite utilizing the Hilton app, I encountered issues with the wireless room key feature, which was unexpectedly unavailable. The front desk staff, however, were exceptionally helpful throughout my stay, addressing various concerns I had with the room. One of the remotes was missing a battery, which was promptly replaced. The TV in the living room area was unresponsive to the remote, requiring maintenance assistance. The room itself appeared worn down and in dire need of an upgrade. Towels in the kitchen exhibited a yellow tint, and the sofa bed in the living area was broken, though we managed to make it work due to sheer exhaustion. We are a travel ice hockey family and travel A LOT. This stay was the absolute BEST experience we have had! The hotel is very clean, stylish, and updated. There is a basketball court outside that the kids enjoyed. The pool and pool area were clean, as was the courtyard - which had lots of comfortable seating and and a fire, and a couple large grills. Breakfast was good! The buffet was clean and fully stocked. The highlights of our stay though all pertain to staff. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable about the area and offered to provide directions and suggestions for restaurants/attractions/local events. Staff were tolerant of our hockey team and designated a conference room for the boys to play/hangout in. Staff were very kind to the team and were interested in how games went, asking for updates on scores, etc! Best suggestions from the front desk: If traveling in the Fall, checkout the local cider mills. Closest one is called Blake’s. Delicious cider, lots of fall activities for the kids. If it’s the week leading up to Halloween, checkout Tillson Street in Romeo. About a 30 min drive from the this hotel. The whole town is decked out for Halloween.

We stayed here for a night for a fun time away from home with the kids. The important things for me were a good pool and breakfast and this hotel delivered. The pool was excellent and the breakfast was also very good. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

The front desk person was rude and not accommodating at all. I was not allowed to pay for my room with the debit card that I reserved the room with. I was told … it was the Manager’s decision but I didn’t meeet a manager. The property was beautiful. The atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming. I have never had an experience like this. Needless to say… my family and I will not patronize this establishment in the future.

Overall the facility and staff were amazing! I've stayed at the fairly new property 3 times. However this stay the pool chlorine levels were extremely high to the point you could smell it from the lobby. Additionally so much so it burned my child's throat and caused severe damage to her hair. She lost 40% of her hair due to high levels of chlorine. For a 12 year old that can be traumatic. The undergarment was discolored as if soaked in pure bleach. I understand wanting to take precaution during Covid but these actions were excessive.
