Claridge House

A lovely room that seemed to have been updated as requested as the reviews state some rooms have not. We were a family of 3 adults staying. The bathroom was tiny and hard to get in and close the door. The sink was outside the toilet area and gave more space but as there was no door didn’t give any privacy for dressing etc. There is no breakfast provided but you can buy coffee and pastries at the bar but very expensive. It’s not far to walk to a cafe/ diner though. however, the hotel is in a great location in a lovely leafy area close to old town. We loved our stay and would definitely consider staying again.

We've stayed at Claridge several times over the years through a few management groups. We enjoy this hotel and the neighborhood. It has a charm about it, is up-to date, and is immaculately clean. The late evening desk staff, however, conducted themselves as if they would rather be ANYWHERE but here. I asked about registering my car but that was not done. The room was for 4 people (we had 2 children) but they provided only 2 towels. We requested more and a housekeeper promptly brought us 2 more sets. When we asked why the room was so dark (only two lamps, no overhead lighting) she came back with an additional lamp. Great service from her. They do not own the parking garage next door. It's Chicago; the cost is a ridiculous $60 for 24 hours. But hotel guests have in and out privledge if you need your car for any reason...which I did. Suffice it to say that they do not give you ANY warning that they must know when you park that you are in the hotel and need in and out so be sure you let them know and ask how to get that at check-in. Many hotels now apply an "amenities: or "resort" fee, Claridge charges $29 which includes a business center we had no intention of using, a room coffee maker and unlimited bottled water. Really. You must pay it. Then make it part of your rate! Mine was reversed by the Manager because of the parking confusion, which was kind of him to do. Everyone should express displeasure with this "Fee" so they get a message. I still like the hotel.

If you want one towel shared between two people over two nights then this is the hotel for you! If you want to need a flashlight to see in your suitcase even though every light in the room is on, this is the room for you! Do you enjoy someone else’s pubes in your shower and a dirty room? Do you enjoy hotel staff banging on your door to get you out of your room at 8 AM and again at 9 AM when you paid for the room until noon? Do our want management to stare blankly when you ask them to have staff stop banging on our hotel room door because my child was sleeping and check out wasn’t for four more hours? You got it! This is the room for you. If you expect fresh towels when requested because only 1 was provided in the room, you’ll be disappointed. No hand towels, no wash cloth, one bath towel total was provided for two people over two nights. We received no additional towels when I asked 3 times. The room was dirty and didn’t look like the photos provided. I’m guessing the photos were photo shopped or the rooms were staged and then the staged items were removed. For example our room on web shows additional lamps that were not in our room. Our room severely lacked lighting/ natural or otherwise. Our “superior” room had a fire escape view. We were told no upgrades were available because the hotel was completely booked, although the hotel still had rooms to book available online. I did not get the $25 resort credit promised by hotels.com gold. Great location and a terrible hotel.

We traveled with our grandchildren for a little getaway. We all enjoyed our stay. Lots of restaurants in the area for picky eaters. Parking is expensive.

It is close to family members in chicago. It's a very nice hotel. We Enjoyed our stay.

We did a staycation here. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. I wish we weren’t right next to the elevator as it was a bit noisy, but that’s hotel life. Would recommend as a place for family and friends to stay.

I stayed with Claridge House for a total of six weeks including two extensions. My room was clean and tidy, with excellent housekeeping. I felt right at home - the hotel is the perfect balance of size and facility. Everything was clean and orderly, staff were cooperative, polite, friendly, and went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The hotel combines a laid back, family friendly lounge vibe during the day - no commercial lobby here but rather a colorful and relaxing area that is both workspace and neighborhood coffee lounge at once, with enough areas for private laptop time as well as cosy, casual drinks with friends old and new - with a sushi and cocktails, party vibe on weekend evenings. Best of all - it's a haven for pet lovers, especially dogs. The hotel is actually so pet friendly it will allow guests to bring virtually any animal that's certified as a therapy or assistance pet by the ADA. Dogs will be spoilt at this location, and it is one of the delights for any guest. The morning breakfast bar offers excellent coffee and pastries, and besides the in-house sushi restaurant, the hotel benefits from the lovely Gold Coast/Old Town location - surrounded by an amazing range of restaurants, bars, parks and mere minutes' access to all the major shopping, tourist and cultural districts of Chicago. I can't wait for my next visit! Thanks CH family.

My husband and I stayed at The Claridge for 3 comfortable nights. Our trip to Chicago included visiting with family and friends, as well as great dining and art/ history excursions. The stay could not have been better. We felt as if it was our “home” to return to after very full days
