Our family has always stayed at Perry Lane and decided to give the Thompson a chance this time since we were just passing through on the way to Florida and then on the way back North. The hotel is cute, clean, and easily accessible by car. The rooftop bar/restaurant is definitely a highlight with beautiful views, dedicated staff, and cute, although somewhat limited, middle Eastern menu. The worst part of our stay was the downstairs staff. After a six hour drive our room was not ready for check in until 6 pm. We made the front desk person take off the outrageous resort fee. As well, the doorman seems to be misunderstanding his job. As we were walking in with all our luggage, he just stood there instead of opening the door for my two daughters who were struggling to open the doors with their suitcases in hand while he told them to go through the other door and pull harder. Finally, the front desk lady at check out tried to refuse to provide me with a copy of my invoice, saying I should ask Expedia. I had to explain to her that Expedia would not have my actual restaurant and other hotel charges on file. I think Hyatt should send in a team to train the staff to make the experience more professional and graceful, because the property definitely has potential.

The hotel itself is very cool. The vibe and decor throughout is spot on. The room itself is where I had an issue. There was no where to put away clothes. For a family of 4 we had two desk drawers (skinny), one “regular” drawer and two small, cubby like drawers. There were also no drawers in the bathroom. We settled the kids as best we could and lived out of our suitcases. Unfortunately the small sitting area in the bedroom has such a low chandelier we had to maneuver around it every time we had to get to our bags. Seems like a design issue as the room has plenty of space for functional furniture.

The place is beautiful, but our experience was stained by the service and attitude from the front desk staff. Rude and unhelpful, very bad attitude. I asked her if she could please repeat herself because I was unable to listen to her instruction, due to the natural noise from the lobby, and the staff member reacted as if I had ask for something awful. I had to apologize for not being able to listen because the lobby was loud. From there, she had a terrible attitude and i did not appreciate after a 9 hour drive with kids to get there

Everything appeared great, but somehow things went sour when the staff kept making up reasons why they did or did not have a microwave available.Who denies a lady and a child access to a microwave when we paid 200 bucks a night? We are very confused about the whole situation, when its the topic of conversation of our 6 hour ride home.

From check in to check out, the staff (and i mean EVERY single person) made us feel like family. The front desk remembered my birthday and gave me SO much love on my 40th. The rooms were so comfortable and clean and glamorous for the price. This is by far my favorite hotel in Savannah!+

Excellence. I've recommended this hotel to friends and family who are now planning a trip. I can't wait to go back.

The Thompson Savannah seems to be the “new kid on the block” with a more modern, fresh and trendy vibe. The hotel is beautifully decorated with a modern but comfortable open lobby and large bar. The restaurant, Fleeting, offers a delicious breakfast menu that is moderately priced with excellent choices. The dinner menu was too pricey (entrees starting at $38) for our taste and not a necessary option with the whole city of Savannah just a few minutes away. The staff at both the hotel and restaurant were very accommodating and polite. The rooftop bar was quite the happening “scene” with a very limited “snack” menu. The second floor outdoor pool is very small and only 3 feet deep- so more for a quick dip or to wade in to cool off. The main drawback of the hotel is the location. If you are going to Savannah, as we were, to sightsee and immerse yourself in the history of the town, this hotel is a little out of the way. While the free city shuttles do stop at the hotel and do run on a fairly regular schedule (approx every 20 mins), they stop operating at 7 pm. Although the main hub of the River Street section of Savannah is an easy 10-15 minute walk, the rest of the historic district is a bit further. If you are a good walker and wear comfortable shoes, it can be done. For us, it would have been better to have stayed directly in town. While this hotel is a lovely option. I would not recommend it for families with young kids. Not enough food options and too far from downtown.

There should be a Keurig in every room for the price you pay, not just the suits. I felt like my money wasn't good enough, and if I wanted more, I had to pay for it. Every room should have a coffee maker. I don't want to get dressed and go to the restaurant to get it. No, I'm not having room service for coffee. Even a less expensive hotel has a coffee maker in the rooms. You will put six bottles of alcohol, but no coffee. Then the hotel maids, if you're not leaving them money every day, you won't leave towels, shampoo, conditioner...etc. I had to ask for them. I leave my tip at the end of the trip, not daily. So because I waited, my service was not good. The king-size bed was dressed in white linens and had a comfy mattress. We both slept well here. There was a nightstand on each side of the bed, with inset outlets for electronic devices. Although the desk chair was comfortable, it was surprisingly heavy, making it challenging to move. Not kid-friendly, If you like to party, it would be good. I prefer a hotel with a coffee maker of some sort. Overall, I slept very well. I just wish I had coffee in my room when I woke up.

Sadly, we were very unimpressed with our stay. Quality did not match the price at all…room smelled of smoke, towels were thin and over-used and shower drain was clogged. Sad about our family’s experience
