Handlery Union Square Hotel

We checked in at 3am due to travel delays. Front desk was friendly and very helpful. Great location, good family hotel. Happy with our visit.

Friendly staff, all of them! We had a big room with balcony. Very nice. We had breakfast at the balcony both days! Easy walking to the cable-tram. Good place to stay!! And.. family owned!!!

Location was fantastic! Room was a generous size, kids loved the pool at the end of a long day sightseeing. Staff were all friendly.

After much research and hotel comparison, I booked a 2 queen bed room at the Handlery for a family trip. The hotel was easy to find and we deove around the block to enter the parking garage, dropping off our vehicle to valet parking for the duration of our stay. The valet was courteous and quickly accepted our vehicle, directing us to the lobby for check in. We were confident in the saftey and security of our vehicle in the hotel's garage and had no issues with utilizing this service. For the duration of pur stay we opted for walking or the local transportation options. Check in went very smoothly and the front desk agent was extremely friendly. Our room on the 5th floor was modernly updated and spacious enough for three adults. The mattresses were a bit stiff for my old bones but nothing that greatly impacted our overall comfort with the acomodations. I appreciated the seperate vanity, strong water pressure in the shower, and multiple usb equipped outlets. We recieved a coupon to use at a nearby cafe, which was helpful for grabbing a quick breakfast during our stay, much appreciated. The hotel's location, just down the block from Union Square with easy access to local transportation, dining and shopping, felt safe and well kept. Overall, I have nothing but praise for the Handlery and would gladly book this location again in the future.

Great location (we were in town for an event at the Curran Theater which was hardly a five minute walk, so super convenient!) and having a pool available made it an excellent choice for our family. My biggest issue was with the water in the bathroom sinks, which ran brown for a minute - see photo of the towel. But once it ran for a minute, it was clear (enough for handwashing but we didn't dare drink it). Beds were very firm. No noise at all from other rooms or city noise, which made for a good stay. We'd stay again, just make sure to bring our own potable water.

I like that Handlery Union Square Hotel is at the heart of the business district! I will recommend it to others, and my family will stay here again.

Good location and SO quiet. My kids really enjoyed the warm pool too.

We were a family of 4 who stayed at The Handlery. It is an old building with beautiful character. We loved our room and appreciated it getting serviced each day. The location is perfect with many eateries and shopping close by and a very easy walk to cable cars. Every staff member we encountered was very helpful and kind. We greatly appreciated being able to check in early as our son was unwell and needed to sleep.

We love this family owned hotel. It has an outdoor pool! Right in the center of the hotel which provides plenty of shelter from the wind. Next time we want to reserve a room over the pool. Our room was mediocre. It did not have windows to the outside. They were sealed. The room was kind of dark.

The doors on the rooms are so incredibly loud. There was someone outside in the hall banging the door shut, I kid you not....every minute...at 7:30am for at least an hour. Was this housekeeping? Not much later I get a knock on my door...."Housekeeping, bang bang, housekeeping, bang bang." Then they open my door. I was in bed. TRYING to get some sleep. Why wouldnt' they check to see if I had checked out yet before barging in? Why would they walk in at 8:43am and just assume I'm not sleeping, or in the shower, or out on the balcony....or can you imagine if your guests were having sex and housekeeping did this? Wow. It's absolutely NOT ok for a housekeeper to just walk in the room before check out time....under NO circumstance.
