Hotel well maintained, excellent location with everything at your doorstep. Room was clean, and service done every day which was great. Bathroom had all amenities needed including bath salt and cotton ball. The room was not very large for a family of 4 but it was alright. We asked for a quiet room, high floor (13th) and it was perfect. The bed and pillows were to very comfortable though..we were sinking in the middle of the bed and pillows were the worst..but it was still a great stay due to the location. The kids enjoyed popcorn every night at 5.30pm. No cookies though which was a shame as it would have been a nice treat considering there is no breakfast option. Saying that, there was tea, lemon water, apples and coffee available all day

Nice stay! Quiet and clean, easy access to the tram to Fisherman’s warf. My kids loved the popcorn, the rubber ducks and there was water in the reception. Friendly and helpful employees.

My family stayed here 5 nights. The hotel was in a convenient location, staff were always very friendly, loved the coffee and cookies available in the lobby 24/7. The only downside for us were the beds, a little too soft for us so we didn’t sleep well.

Great little spot... free coffee and cookies and water and fruit nice touch. The rooms have additional touches in the bathroom like cotton balls, qtips soaps bath salts. Great spot gran a cable right out front at corner near Starbucks and see the sights. Nostalgic feel to hotel and really cool, clean, and would highly recommend. I was travelling with my wife and 3 kids and we had two double rooms.

A Gem of a hotel right in the heart of Union Square. We didn't expect the hotel to be so well kept with the rate being so low but we were surprised and so delighted to find this pretty, retro hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. The attention to detail is apparent and it was impeccably clean with terrific amenities. The service was wonderful as well. It was quiet even though on the cable car line on Powell. There is no air conditioning which we were aware of but they supply a fan in the closet if needed. We opened our window and it was perfect. Parent BE ADVISED the windows do not have childproof safety measures so don't allow them near the windows. We loved the cute bathroom, black and white tiled floor - the colors of the paint in the room - and the extremely WONDERFUL PILLOWS! The bed was so comfy - we will definitely stay again. Probably not during summer months with heat - we visit often from another area of the Bay so it's great to know about this hotel vs the very expensive ones surrounding it.

Although I live in the East Bay, I am a member of a club in downtown San Francisco. When we have a late night event I look to see if I can get a good rate at a nearby hotel. The Chancellor often has a reasonable rate. If so, I stay there. The location is great & remains a family operated hotel. It was built after the 1906 earthquake. It has a good feel for the history of S.F., & the rooms are always clean. The staff is always friendly. I love staying there when I get a good rate.

Great location. Clean and tidy. I enjoyed knowing I was supporting one of the few family run hotels left in SF and that it was a historic building. Also liked the access to tea/coffee in the lobby area.

Given a 2nd level room with a view to nothing but aircon compressors. The room was too cramp for family of 4. Room was stuffy and thus stale air filled the room. Difficult to sleep at all with still air.
