Got to hotel issued with rooms 2 double staying with family, got into our room avoiding the bucket on stairs catching the water coming in from ceiling.Made a cup of tea just as tje wife sat on bed to say this pillows wet, which on looking up saw a leak on ceiling in bedroom as well.So went down to reception to tell them, not sure of receptions ladies name but it was no trouble at all soon gave us a deluxe room instead.By looking at hotel and rooms it needs a refit a bit dated.

We stayed here on a visit to see family over the weekend and I have to say it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Room - The room wasn’t clean - we both got covered in bites! Room was really dusty. Toilet was blocked. Plug in bath didn’t work, wouldn’t open to let water out so had to force plug out. Safe didn’t work Staff- we had a maintenance man just walk in whilst we were in bed in the room, luckily I wasn’t fresh out shower or getting ready as was embarrassing!!! Didn’t knock, nothing just walked straight in and in to our bathroom as they were trying to figure out where a leak was coming from on another floor (not ours). Could have been very embarrassing!! Room service - called for room service one evening for bottles of water to be told no as it needs to be agreed with reception?? Reception hadn’t made us away of this, nor was there any information on this in the room. Lifts - no lifts not great for suitcases on top floor or anyone that can’t lift or access. Breakfast- paid extra for this - DO NOT bother it was disgusting, bacon was crunchy undercooked. Hash brown was DRIPPING in oil! Bar- Hotel bar was nice, staff on the bar were friendly. Overall the hotel is very dated, smells of smoke, seriously needs updating!! Could be lovely place with some TLC.

Last minute break away. Lovely friendly staff. At breakfast you feel like your part of the family. We have booked it again as our airport hotel in a couple of weeks. The only thing that confused us was the parking as its close to another car park.

Have stayed many times before, it's the only hotel in Whickham so no choice when visiting family here. Staff all helpful and friendly enough but hotel needs a modernising makeover, and i hate all the single use plastic - shampoo, soap, milk jiggers etc. Pillows rock hard we'll take our own next time, beds ok though. Needs modernising but we'll be back if we have to be in Whickham, although we do sometimes stay at the cheaper and far more modern Premier Inn when we can be bothered with the £7 taxi ride from there to Whickham!
