The rooms are wonderfully large, so my family of five was very comfortable. I don't like the wall paintings and door decor. The service was friendly but there were long lines at the reception desk and the restaurant service was not good: surly, slow, mixed up our orders and was expensive. Luckily there are good restaurants within walking distance. The valet was excellent. Overall was happy with the stay because it was so so easy to be there with the family.

Very clean, nice hotel. Our room was great for a family with a toddler. Plenty of space. All staff was very friendly and courteous. Will be back.

Incredibly spacious suite — great for families or small meetings. Hotel needs an update (peeling paint, etc) but rooms make up for it. Plus Capitol directly across the street for pleasant walk (and some history).

Hotel needs to provide more soap. We only had one small bar of soap in our room for a family of 4. We had to ask for more soap and body wash. Restaurant only had one person working; which was the bar tender. He did a good job. Charged $20 for a meal that had very small portions. I couldn’t receive a receipt at checkout because I booked with Expedia; I have never heard such a thing and I book online all the time. Nice ideas poor execution. Called our room 15 minutes before 12 to ask us to leave; when checkout is at 12. Tacky!

Things we liked: proximity to family and friends, local artwork/artists featured, very large rooms with ample furniture, food/restaurant downstairs (we weren't interested in this so can't really share more about their food selection) Things that were not so great: rooms weren't clean (hair throughout bathroom and bed, among other things), prior damage to walls in the room, incidental fee upcharge (virtual check-in lists the fee as $50, but after arrived, we were told it was $75--they refused to honor the first fee and waive it for us; the location of the hotel itself is odd and it was very dark when we arrived. The elevators were crazy small. Overall, an interesting experience. Not sure we'd stay here again--veryyy overpriced for the experience.

Stayed on night with family in a suite. Upon arrival valet came promptly to greet us, and parked our car. Frontdesk staff was friendly and professional, leading to an under ten minute check in process. While the elevators were small, they arrived quickly. Our suite was large, with two queen beds, and a queen sofa bed. Chairs were in both the bedroom area, and living area. A small refrigerator, microwave, and safe were also present. Just be aware that the shower has a glass enclosure. The room was worth the price paid.

It is a beautiful old hotel updated with a modern twist. The property is owned by a family, not a corporation and it shows in the care of the place, and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The dining room is very good and, of course, a convenience. The value is high for the space as our room was not a room alone but a suite.

We are a family with 2 children. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The location is amazing. There is a beautiful park right across the street and you can even see the Virginia State Capitol from the hotel. The staff was very friendly and attentive. From the valet driver to the front desk, everyone was very nice and welcoming. We would definitely go back!

All 10's except for the surprise $100 pet cleaning fee for my 10 pound hypo-allergenic poodle. Wasn't disclosed on Expedia's site and was quite the hefty addition to my stay. Hotel Monaco does it right. If you say you're pet friendly - pets should be free of charge. Most humans are much dirtier than my pup, and most kids make a lot more of a mess.
