Red Roof Inn Etowah – Athens, TN

The hotel is in a convenient location, but it is on a main road. There was constant road noise. The television package was Comcast Business Class, and it was missing a lot of channels that were important to my family. The floors were a laminate that transferred sound easily. I could hear the people above me walking on a regular basis. The wall air conditioner did not do a good job of regulating the room temperature. And do not plan on sleeping in. The housekeeping staff was knocking on doors at 7:00 a.m. . Even though I had a "do not disturb" hanger on my door, I could hear them knocking on all of the rooms up and down the hallway. Additionally, even though they did not clean my room during my stay, I found an envelope for a tip on the main desk in my room. I found that to be off-putting. I also had a problem with my room key. Even though I paid up front for two nights, they only keyed my door cards for one night. I had to go to the lobby on the second day and get the front desk clerk to give me access to my room. Finally, this hotel had a sign in the lobby area stating they no longer serve breakfast. In reality, the biggest plus to this location is the fact that the room was clean.

Let me start by saying that the family whom owns this property are very nice. But… the bed was essentially what you would see in an old RV or dorm. Just a very hard foam mattress on a metal frame. My first time ever seeing this sort of “bed” in any hotel setting. So don’t expect a comfortable nights sleep. This place is more an urgency stay hotel, than one you’d want to stay in a couple of days.
