The toilet kept clogging and didn’t flush everything down. The last night we had to get a maintenance man to come in on his off time to unclog the toilet at 10pm. It was the third time the toilet was plunged that day. The exhaust fan didn’t work in the bathroom, and we asked them to fix it. They had the maintenance man in our room for that, and he left a mess on the floor in the bathroom. Housekeepers don’t speak English, so my husband had to find someone that spoke some English to tell them we needed a plunger. The first night there was a party at the pool with guests drinking alcohol. Not safe with little kids swimming. What if they needed help swimming or started to drown? Who was going to help them? Their intoxicated parents?

Really enjoyed our stay at Shutters, we loved the convience of being right on the beach as well as having the option of indoor pool and hot tub for kids on our days it was too cold for beach.

The staff was wonderful. The rooms were a little small but were clean and had everything we needed. Housekeeping stopped daily to ask if we needed anything, and since the kids were using the towels for the pool, it was nice to get fresh towels. It rained the majority of our trip, so having an indoor pool was great. Having a full breakfast everyday was wonderful! The only 2 negatives were the doors and the walls. The walls are thin and we could literally hear the person in the next room snoring. The people walking around above us sounded like a herd of elephants. And the first time we left, we didn't realize the door didn't latch if you didn't slam it, which explained why it sounded like everyone was slamming doors. The walk to the beach was nice and the pavilion overlooking the ocean was nice. All in all, we will stay here again when we come back.

We came down for the weekend and it was the perfect location for our kids. They loved being steps from the beach to watch the sunrises and find seashells. Having an indoor pool was also convenient and gave them something to do in the evenings. It was our second time staying here, and I know we’ll be back.

Great location, kind and helpful staff (Stephanie and Zach were great!), and wonderful continental breakfast! Also quaint and clean room, short walk over dune to beach, nice pool/hot tub, and comfortable beds! My whole family enjoyed our trip and hotel made it even better - Thank you!

Shutters on the Banks is a little older than some of the hotels along the Outer Banks, but it is wonderfully maintained and inviting. It is great for families because the bathrooms (though small and a little dated) are right inside the door - pool or ocean mess can be left there without making a mess of the rest of the room. The rooms are HUGE and the beds are amazingly comfortable. The breakfast offered was a great variety - from pastries to waffles, eggs, biscuits, gravy, fruit, yogurt and cereal. And the staff was wonderful - they made check-in and check-out simple - all the information needed was on printed materials and pointed out for easy reference. Although we didn't swim, there is an indoor pool - and the towers offered a gorgeous view of the dunes with a walkway leading up to a restful gazebo. Don't miss this place!

We booked this stay based on its proximity to everything. We have a family of four, with two young boys and the rooms were very comfortable. The staff was friendly and efficient. The indoor pool and spa was nice on the cold November nights. Their breakfast was behind our expectations. I would stay here again.
