The Doormen were fantastic however the front desk person was not helpful. Our stay had precise timing which we arranged with the hotel previously and confirmed multiple times including ON the arrival day. The hotel did not accommodate us. As there was a problem the front desk simply replied I can't help you. I then came up with solutions with the hotel but with no assistance from the staff. Instead of offering ANYTHING (like breakfast) or a free snack for my children they just pushed us aside. The hotel itself was fine but we had a bitter taste after our check-in experience so will not stay here again as they do not value servicing a customer only push to turn rooms over.

We arrived at 10:30am and asked if we could check into our room early. At first, Cherry asked for a $50 fee for early check in. I said that I talked to the reservations the day before and they promised to accommodate us but mentioned no extra fee for early check in. Then she said our room was not yet ready and will call us when it is. Fast forward 5h, and I’m inquiring when could we finally check in, she tells me our room is not available at all that day, but they can put us in a much smaller room then move us the day after, and comp our $39 ( or $44) facilities fee. They put is in an extremely loud room even though we asked for a quiet one since we were there with a small child and for 4 nights. We didn’t get much sleep that night. The following day, there was a loud fire alarm test-the day after Thanksgiving-which terrified my daughter and stressed us out by making us rush and leave our room before we were ready. That evening the front desk calls to ask if we want the room we booked and paid for and we have to come back and decide quickly-adding more stress to our stay. I had to pack and move quickly. The room they put us in was large and nice but old and worn out and it smelled sour. I reported the smell worrying that it might be a gas leak but nothing changed. It still smelled the same for 3 nights. The wallls are paper thin and staff is hit and miss. I witnessed an argument with two guests and front desk where the guests accused the front desk staff of being rude.

The hotel was lovely and clean. Our room was big enough to fit our family of 5 comfortably. The little kitchen was convenient, with refrigerator, microwave, and single burner stove. The was even some dishes, which was convenient for the couple of take out meals we brought back. Staff was nice, doormen were super friendly. Lots of nearby food options. Subway stations close as well. I walked with my 7 year old daughter to the American Girl store at Rockefeller Center in about 15 minutes. The location is overall, pretty nice and convenient.

There are a lot of horrible reviews about this place that are not warranted. I stayed with my wife and 3 kids for week. First the staff at this place is awesome and the doormen are great. Second we were surprised to see our room had a kitchen. The gentleman at the front desk said that the hotel used to be apartments so the rooms have kitchens. Third the fifty is centrally located and fairly close to Central Park, grand central and the Rockefeller center. The beds aren’t the most comfortable nor are they unbearable. The air conditioning worked fine in our room. We saw reviews saying the air conditioning didn’t work. The water pressure in shower was also ok. The best part about this hotel is the price. It is easily the most inexpensive hotel in the area. I would recommend this hotel and we do plan on coming back.

We had a fantastic experience at the Fifty Sonestra - amazing location, wonderful friendly staff, super easy valet parking, would highly recommend. Hotel room was very spacious for a family of five, clean and quiet.

Great location, easy walk to shops and restaurants plus McDonald’s just around corner. Helpful staff, room a little tired but reasonable space for us with two teenage children (we had a junior suite). Could have been cleaner under furniture items, our son slept on sofa bed which was very dirty underneath. We enjoyed our stay and even though it was quite busy around, wasn’t too noisy.

My family and I had an excellent stay at this hotel in the heart of New York. There were a lot of positives about this hotel. The price was reasonable, the rooms were clean and felt modern, we never had any noise concerns, the elevators were always quick (we have stayed in some hotels where the wait times for the elevators were insane), the staff was very friendly and very helpful. A big thing for us was that it was within walking distance of many main attractions for NYC (Times Square, shopping) and there were main metro lines within a block or two for the further destinations (Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Chelsea). Even getting to and from the airport was quick and easy by metro/bus. It is a little (a lot?) intimidating to use the metro (especially from the airport) but people were very helpful. If there was one slight negative it was having to call down for things like "clean cups" or "toilet paper" even after the room had just been cleaned. In other words the cleaning staff did a great job cleaning but not replenishing supplies we used. However, if we left a note that we needed something they were on top of it. So I emphasize it is a minor negative. It did not affect our enjoyment of the stay. Overall - an amazing hotel for its rooms and convenient location. I highly recommend it.
