Homewood Suites by Hilton Albuquerque Downtown

For a new property, it was mostly very good. The rooms were spacious, the staff courteous and helpful, and the hot breakfast was uninspired but adequate. The location is excellent. A few things let the property down. The first and most obvious was the decision to employ through-the-wall air conditioner/heater units, instead of central HVAC. As a result we wakened each night by the jet-engine heater taking off. It was incredibly noisy. The other poor decision was the wall sound insulation. For a modern property, there was a substantial noise transmission through the walls and ceiling. The result was disturbance from children in the next room yelling, and from above loud banging that sounded like someone dropping weights on the floor. The parking is charged at $8 a night, which is reasonable, IF it was inspected regularly by security. There were several occasions where oversized vehicles had squeezed into compact spaces, making it difficult to park in adjacent spots. And we were driving an electric vehicle, but on two occasions were unable to charge because the "EV only" spots were occupied by large gas-powered vehicles. Since the room numbers were displayed, it would have been a simple task for security to ask these guests to move. We tried reporting one vehicle to the front desk, but hours later it was still parked in the EV charging bay. Nice, clean and tidy hotel. Breakfast was fine, they even had fruit. We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children. One of the beds was a coach/sofa which could be turned into a bed. It surprised us a bit that we had to prepare the bed ourselves.
