This trip was booked a few weeks out when decided to join my husband's family in Cape May. The Chalfonte had one of the few available rooms left in town, so we booked it. My husband grew up in Cape May and had fond memories of their front porch. Let me say the porch/bar is lovely. BUT, that is were it stops. We have stayed in a number of Victorian homes in Cape May that have been turned into hotels, we know they tend to be smaller & have older décor. Our room at the Chalfonte was in the attic. The room was so small that you could barely open a suitcase, and my husband could not stand fully upright in the tiny bathroom. Definitely not the room shown in the listing. Size aside, the room was not particularly clean. There cob webs, peeling paint, drips on the wall and a dirty shower curtain. The sheets may have been new because they felt starched and scratchy. I spoke with the front desk and with a bit of annoyance, they said they would change the sheets. We had booked the room for 4 nights, and told them that the room would not work for another 3. They said there was nothing they could do, they only had 1 other room available, and "it was not better". So, despite having already paid $1200 to the Chalfonte, we went and rented a room elsewhere. It is not another $1100 we had to spend, but did not see another way to salvage the vacation and enjoy time with our family.

We love the Chalfonte in Cape May! Only downside for us is no pool because we have kids. Highly recommend!

loved the old fashioned hotel with big windows, friendly staff, great food and a community, family feel. comfortable and traditional with morning coffee available downstairs, rocking chairs on porch, and breezes through open windows and screen doors. wonderful October getaway.
