Hampton Inn Detroit/Southgate

The hotel is highly understaffed, but that didn't deter from the quality customer service we received. Arthur was wonderful and managed ALL areas of the hotel very well by himself! That being said, the hotel was dirty. The guests were loud. Our room was much, much smaller than I was lead to believe from the pictures on the website - and from my past stay at this hotel. Breakfast was subpar, EVERYONE was in the pool (which means the floors were constantly wet and kids were running around the hotel), and guests were just loud. In positive news, though, check in and check out went pretty well. We were accidentally charged on our card the amount that I had already paid to Hotels.com, but they immediately reversed the charge (supposedly; haven't verified that yet) and then waived the $50 incidental fee. I will not stay at this hotel in the future; the Staybridge Suites in Southgate are much nicer. I'd be willing to pay a little more for a room to have a more enjoyable stay.

I booked this Hampton especially for the heated pool since my 3 grandchildren and my daughter would be staying there for the night. The "heated" pool was so cold, no one could swim in it. They ended up staying in the hot tub the whole time. The pool room itself was cold and uncomfortable also. I registered a complaint on the website but haven't heard from anyone.

By far the worst hotel experience I have ever had. The staff were rude. The noise level was horrendous. Kids played soccer in the hallway, slamming doors, screaming and yelling. The parents of these kids sat down in the lobby area and allowed their children to just be completely unsupervised. I called the front desk and was hung up on by Ingrid when i expressed concern with noise levels. I get it some people come to a hotel to hang out and have a good time but there are some of us who are here on business. The noise level was so extreme that I had to complete a zoom meeting in my car in the parking lot of the hotel and then rescheduled a second meeting. When reading reviews on this hotel and you see cleanliness, rude staff and noise were issues. Believe it!

Visiting family in the area and wanted to stay at a nicer, but reasonable hotel. Location was perfect. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. But the hotel….uugghhh! Air conditioning was non existent in hallways and you could not shut it off in the rooms so they were like an ice box. Showers were dirty and moldy. Ceiling had water dripping and plaster looked loose (probably from the air conditioner unit). Breakfast was abundant but lacked flavor. If you wanted coffee with your breakfast you had to go back to the lobby to get lukewarm coffee.

I had a few issues with the place there was mold throughout the bathroom on the shower door around the corners of the walls above the shower and in the bathroom.. The armrest for the chair was hanging off the toilet would not stop running. Went to use the pool there was a bunch of children running around in there swimming in the hot tub and the pool no parents to be found. The restroom in the pool area was filthy was not stocked with supplies no toilet paper or paper towels.. as in most hotels there is usually some bathroom essentials other than the soap on the wall

Our two bedroom suite was very large and comfortable. Even though our bathroom light burnt out during the stay, it wasn't that big of a deal for us. The bed wasn't as comfortable as I would have preferred, but my son said he slept well. There were several children in the room next to us that we could hear in the hallway, but not from our room, so that was very nice! The staff was all very polite and professional. Check in and check out was very quick. Their breakfast options were impressive for a hotel, but I can't report on the quality as I didn't eat and my son had an apple...lol. Overall, we'd stay at this hotel again.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. I was very excited to find this hotel with a pool and a hot tub. It was the only reason I booked this hotel. I couldn't even enjoy either of them. The pool had so much chlorine in it that our eyes were on fire. There were literal tears coming down our faces. I watched a very excited family come in with all of their children and have to immediately leave with disappointed children. The chlorine bleached my swimsuit, ruining it. Now on to the room itself. I have never slept on such an uncomfortable bed. I would have got a better nights sleep on the floor. Me and my family didn't sleep at all while we were there. The dresser drawers wouldn't stay shut. So we were constantly running into them. The bathroom door didn't want to shut nor stay open when you wanted it to. There was no vent in the bathroom so our room was always humid from the showers. The paint on the ceiling in the bathroom was peeling. Overall the room didn't give me the cleanest vibes either. Food on the comforter from the previous person and just a film of dirt on the outlet next to the bed. Do NOT recommend!

We had a family event here. 12 bookings total. The location is great. Due to short staffing and covid some rooms that I was told about needed cleaned better. I literally scrubbed the nightstand and toilet myself in my room. The toilet was disgustingly dirty where the screws are on the seat. And the trash cans really need cleaned out. We covered the furniture with the extra sheets in the closet. I was glad we brought lysol spray and wipes. We wiped down everything. We used the banquet room. The only complaint there was the trash cans looked gross. But once i pointed them out, they instantly corrected that issue. As for the staff, they were wonderful! Absolutely the best. Extremely helpful, extremely kind and very accomodating. We never complained or mentioned our cleaning issues to them. They were so good to our party that we just took care of it all ourselves. The breakfast was wonderful. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and raved about it. It was tasty. We appreciated the variety of foods available and loved the healthy choices that were included. And who wouldn't like to have coffee available 24/7 in the lobby... FYI... these may be important to you... We didn't know the shuttle doesn't run before 4pm. We didn't know room service isn't available unless you request it. We didn't use the pool but i heard it was nice. We would stay again. But I'm packing my lysol.

Walked in after a ball game with a sleeping kid on our shoulder. As soon as got to room received a call from front desk asking us to stop jumping around & to be quiet as other guests were bothered. Only it was not us, our kids were asleep in bed. Hotel was loud all throughout night. No sound buffering. Room was dusty & carpets were very dirty, made socks black.

Great place to stay.. Very clean and polite staff. Will definitely stay and refer to friends and family!!
