Great location - easy to get to all the good spots in Grand Haven. Also really close to the store if you need things for little ones. Staff is friendly and helpful, hotel is clean. I’m not a fan of needing to ask for daily housekeeping but that’s just a standard at hotels these days. I’m all for the environment and business savings, but would prefer a simpler way of indicating “we don’t need daily housekeeping but daily trash and towels” would be appreciated without having to ask each day.

The staff was very kind and helpful while we stayed there over the weekend. Exterior was maintained, but once inside the room it was musty and had some areas that weren’t in great shape (walls, appearance of carpet). We stayed with 2 young kids and it was fine for them but not somewhere I would stay if it was just the two of us. This is our second visit here, but this time we were placed in a detached hotel building that appeared much older and less taken care of. A little disappointed but we made it work.

Our family stays here at least once a year. You are definitely paying a premium for the location and lack of competition- we pay for one night here what we pay for a luxury two night stay in downtown Chicago. Cons: the rooms are old, smell musty, and sometimes the baseboards look neglected, and the price. Pros: the rooms are safe, the air, TV, and shower have worked fine in every room, and the proximity of everything (Meijer, fast food, the beach, downtown, etc.) is very convenient. The front desk is always very helpful, as well.

Staff was excellent. Beds were very comfortable. I did not realize we would be in a building not attached to the hotel. So when the kids wanted to swim, we had to walk (in the cold & rain) to and from the main building to get to the pool. Same with breakfast.

Great hotel for the price. Pool seemed clean, breakfast was well stocked and the room was comfortable. They had a great selection of kid friendly games near the front desk that would have been very appreciated if we were traveling with kids. Our ONLY complaint would be that our specific room had a stale cigarette smoke smell.

We arrived and the wifi was not working and they could not/would not check us in. We were forced to leave, find a restaurant and come back. This despite filling out their “online easy registration” checkin from a text, completed BEFORE arrival. They were not willing to alter their protocols and had no solution, even though I could show them my confirmation on my phone. When we returned from dinner we had to wait 10 minutes to check in because the attendant was in the back room looking for shampoo for another guest. When we finally were allowed to check in, the card reader malfunctioned, which took another 10 minutes. I asked if they would accommodate us by allowing my 15 year old to swim before they closed the pool to minors. Not surprisingly, I was told “no”, they do not make accommodations. No kidding…interestingly enough, when my girlfriend and I got out of the pool, a family was at the front desk trying to check in and had been ringing the service bell for 20 minutes, with no response. Our room had a large dresser which had a cabinet that housed the fridge, 3 large drawers and the TV sat on top. One of the drawers would not stay shut and continued to open right into the walkway. After struggling to keep it shut, I called the front desk and explained that I was concerned someone was going to walk into it and asked for a piece of tape to secure it. The front desk knew of the problem and said to be patient and someone would tape. They never came. Poor service!

My room smelled like cigarettes even though i had to sign something saying I wouldn't smoke in the room as it's non smoking. I am a non smoker and it smelled terrible. My kids asked if we could buy febreeze or go to a different hotel.

When I reserved and bought my room on Hotels.com there was no reference that I was booking in an annex building. there is the main hotel and multiple annex buildings which are basically motel rooms that are not connected to the hotel - you drive up to your rooms door and walk in. I did not want this with my small children, I was expecting that I was getting a room inside the hotel. Best Western did not want to help, so I had to call hotels.com - they were able to convince the hotel to move me into the main part of the hotel - then they added an extra $$$ per night fee for the "upgrade", which was the same room setup as the annex room. The hotel was clean and the pool area was well maintained, but the initial hour of going back and forth with the hotel and hotels.com to get what I paid for was very unpleasant - and then I had to pay extra to get what I already bought - that was a black eye on the trip.
