The staff was great and breakfast was good as well. During our stay I had gotten several bug bites during our stay. An issue i didnt stress due to my children not having any bites. The day we checked out, I had spoken to a friend and show them the bites and the pictures of the bug and was informed that it looked like bed bugs! When I called the hotel, the woman on the phone was very understanding and helpful. She provided an email address for the manager who, unfortunately, never responded to my email

Grandstay has a friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Sure there were some outdated things but we paid a lot less than the newer hotels. The bed was comfortable, shower worked well, nicely appointed kitchen. Since I’ve had cleaning jobs & am particular in regards to that, I had to deduct a bit on cleanliness. A few things they overlooked otherwise a nice stay while visiting family in Ames.

For my family of 6, this was a great option. Where else can you find a room for 6 with a swimming pool and breakfast for under $100? 2 bedrooms with queen beds and a living room with a sofa bed along with 3 tvs. Nice for the kids to watch Bluey while I caught up with March Madness. The hot tub wasn’t working, but the pool was warm and the kids loved it. There were some signs of wear in the bathroom, but the beds were clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again. Breakfast was a basic selection of foods. Bonus tip: Old Chicago is next door. They have an ice cream sundae for under $2 on their children’s menu. Order online and pick up one for each member of your family because who doesn’t like ice cream to end the day

They gave me a room that was one bed short of what I reserved for my family of 6. While polite and apologetic, no attempt to rectify mistake was made, other than allowing me to cancel. I was able to get a room at Staybridge Suites last minute and my family had a great experience there.

We drove 7 hours with 5 kids to this Grand Stay to be told they overbooked our handicap accessible RESERVED room. (I get it ..mistakes happen) We had to fit 7 people on one bed and a pull out couch. I then was given information to connect to the wifi, went to our room, tried connecting to the wifi to finish my work. Wifi wouldn't work. Called the desk and was told the wifi wasnt working because of road construction. This info came from the same person that gave me the wifi info at checkin just one hour prior. My husband requeated a partial refund for our smaller room and for not having wifi. The person at the desk said we need to search in THEIR policy to find where it says we have a right to a refund for these things. My husband also has a broken leg and could barely manage the bathroom because we couldn't get the room we reserved. It was horrible for him! How embarrassing for the GrandStay brand. We will not be back to this hotel.

Front desk staff was a nice guy, sometimes nobody was there but there’s a bell you can ring. Our pull out couch was broken so we had to switch rooms. The next room had a broken couch as well. In need of updates, the tub filled with water after a short shower. No linens in kitchen, very little silverware. There wasn’t enough maintenance and cleaning staff. The pool area was not cleaned the weekend of our stay. The hot tub water wasn’t clean, tile floors could’ve used a cleaning as well. The plus side was a nice set up with 2 separate bedrooms and a small living area which was nice for a family. Breakfast was okay, nothing fancy but enough to pick from. Most our room keys didn’t work which was a hassle. All in all I’ve stayed at numerous hotels in Ames and Ankeny and I most likely won’t be returning here.

The property was in a good location & easy to find. Seemed to be short staffed with one woman having to do all the work. A couple in front of us was waiting for their room to be made ready & it was already late afternoon. I made the reservation for 2 adults & 4 kids, the pull out sofa couch was in very poor condition. Lumpy & uneven & horrible to sleep on. The dishes in the dishwasher were suppose to be clean, however you could still see food on them. The hot tub was not hot, luke warm at best. The pool was very small, the pictures online are very deceiving. 4 kids & 2 adults about fill it up. The pool towels were tiny & extremely thin. The hotel lady was very polite but I could tell she was tired and seemed over worked. She was rarely at the front desk, we would have to wait for her to appear. The phone in the room was not even connected & after figuring out how to connect it, no one answered at the front desk so we had to make a trip downstairs to wait & see her to request the bedding & extra towels as there was only 5 towels in the room for 6 people. The breakfast was not good at all. At 8 am most of the food was already gone, there was people who came after us and they had hardly anything to choose from. There were no eggs, no pancake/waffle batter to use. The french toast sticks were mushy and fell apart at the slightest touch. Only caramel creamer to choose from for coffee, very limited selection for food. Nothing grand about this hotel for the price.
