Le Méridien Essex Chicago

I recommend. Spent the night with my kids and they enjoyed their stay. I’d say friendly staff is their main focus, but the room was clean and many dining options nearby as well.

Le Meridian Essex never fails to be a great place to stay when we move our child in or out of college or when we visit. The hotel is fantastic and the staff is very helpful and kind. It is close to Columbia College, restaurants and transportation. We love the $15 credit for the restaurant - either to use at breakfast or happy hour.

We were busy with family so not in the room much. The front desk staff and concierge were very pleasant and very accommodating. We ate at the connecting restaurant a few times, and found the staff there lovely.

Staff was amazing, Marcus at the front always greeted us with chocolates! Very helpful staff, and hotel was clean, modern and felt very safe. Great walking distance to Millenium park and all the museums. My only issue was we were a family of four and the rooms were too small for us and our 3 bags of luggage. Aside from that everything was spectacular. Their gym even had a peloton which was plus for me!

We were told check in was at 4pm. We arrived at 5:30 and were told to wait longer for a room. We ended up waiting until 6:30 for a room, even though we did the expedited check in online ahead of time. The lobby was packed full of other customers experiencing the same, if not longer, delays. The service was poor, the employees were unprofessional. It is not well advertised that room service (made beds/extra towels) are only upon request-- even for a multi-night stay. When asked for fresh sheets/made beds, we were promised but that was never fulfilled. There was a hidden fee of $15/day for a "destination fee" and when I called, the front desk clerk said it was to cover the "complimentary water and gym access." Complimentary describes free amenities by definition. And we received 2 warm water bottles for a 2 person 2 night stay. Essentially we were charged $30 for two warm water bottles. Additionally, whatever wet rag had collected hair and dust and was used to clean the faucet handles in the bathroom, leaving a clump of wet hair/dust on the handle. Not only will I never stay here again, I will go out of my way to encourage friends, family members, coworkers, and anyone on hotels.com, yelp, google, etc. to stay away from this excuse for a hotel.

Staff as ok…. They let our baby sleep on the couch in the lobby because the room wasn’t ready until magically 3:59pm. RIGHT at check in time. The room was very clean but tiny and just okay…. I wouldn’t stay here again. Especially for $400 a night. Find somewhere else.

Room was very clean and modern. Hot water in shower is kind of tricky. You can hear everything in the surrounding rooms and on our visit someone was having a party all night. We woke to kids playing in the halls. Check-in was slow even after I did the online pre-checkin. Good location to Soldier Field though…#vamosfire!!
