Hotel Abri - Union Square

the staff were friendly, knowledgable and professional. When I had questions about using public transportation, they were very helpful. The rooms were small but provided everything and still made it feel cozy. The wifi was good and the work station provided was adequate. Water was warm and so was the complimentary coffee. They even had complimentary gumballs for the little ones and my son loved it. I will be staying here again for all my future trips to SF.

The reservation process at Expedia did not allow me to put in the names of my traveling companions. So when *I* was not the first to show up, my family could not get in. This process needs a tweak.

Our family of 4 stayed in a 2 bed, standard room for 3 nights while my husband then stayed on for a further 3 nights by himself. The room itself was nice, clean and well furnished. It was very small for the 4 of us but as we didn't spend much time inside it wasn't a major problem. There is limited cupboard/storage space in the rooms, really only enough for one person, even with the two beds. Staff were very pleasant. The hotel itself does not have many amenities however, they do have a snack and wine selection you can access at any time and charge to your room. The room had amazing blackout curtains so we all slept very well but the area was very noisy with a combination of late-night yelling and traffic. The area around the hotel is fabulous in one direction and not so in the other. Towards Union Square and the cable car, the streets are relatively clean and there is great access to public transport. The other direction is less clean with large numbers of homeless individuals using this area. At no time did we feel unsafe but families with younger children may want to avoid this area due to exposure to drug use and erratic behaviour. The hotel definitely lives up to his boutique feel and I would recommend it overall for its location and decor/feel.
