Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Merced, an IHG Hotel

We had to attend new student orientation for my daughter at UC Merced. The room was perfect for our family of 6. Breakfast was delicious and totally worth getting up early for.

We checked in for 4 people. Only 1 wash cloth and 2 towels. My husband was asked to come fetch more. He did. Now after 19 hours of travel my son is in the shower and the body wash is emptied. I called and was asked to come and get it. Well, they are all out. The “manager forgot to order it but more is ordered now” My kids do not like bar soap but trying to avoid more driving to a I said I would try to get them to use it. Well she could not find bar soap. I asked if there is an empty room she could take soap from. She went to look. There was some in another room but she wasn’t sure how to remove it from the holder. I now have exhausted wet kids waiting on soap. It’s disappointing that room was not set up or prepared. It makes me think corners in cleaning are cut elsewhere. Pool was crowded with kids jumping. We did not use it long as I was afraid my kids would be hurt by others rough housing. Not the hotels fault for that though.

Booked a two queen bed room but received a double bed room. We were 4 people and there were only stuffs for two people, for example towels and cups. We got here was late night, kid was tired and we had no time to request all changes. I will make sure next time before booking here.

I was disappointed by my stay here. I usually have a great experience with Holiday Inn, but not this time. The rooms were unusually dirty. The carpet in the room and the hallway was dirty, the bathtub was dirty, and I've never seen a toilet in such bad condition. I know that housekeeping came around every day, but I'm not sure what they did. The breakfast was also disappointing. My family stayed here for three days, and every morning, there was less and less at breakfast. On our last day, they didn't even have bowls. I will say that the people who worked at the hotel were nice, and I enjoyed the town of Merced a lot, but I have never stayed at a Holiday Inn in such poor condition.
