We had an extremely disappointing overnight stay at DoubleTree for New Year's. We'd booked a deluxe room with two queen beds for ourselves and our two children six months prior and checked into the hotel in the afternoon of the 31 December, so there was nothing last-minute about our arrangements and no excuse to be allocated the room which we were subsequently given. The bathroom photos displayed on Expedia were not at all like the bathroom we received. Our toilet quite revoltingly had no lid, and the shower had a tatty curtain rather than glass panelling, resulting in water spraying everywhere. A complaint to the manager via Expedia's online check-in questionnaire received no response. Further complaints to the staff on check-out the following morning were met with a weak apology and promise to inform the maintenance staff about the missing toilet lid. There was no offer of a refund of any sort, which is ridiculous really given the hefty price tag and the fact that it was not the advertised room we had booked. It was simply a dismal end to an otherwise super vacation in New Zealand, during which we stayed in other hotels which were lovely. This was the worst Hilton we have ever stayed in, and we will not be returning!

The room was OK, but when I was checking out, customer service staff was rude. My kids even said they would not want to go back again.

We booked a Junior Suite for 2 nights. The room was lovely, & the bathroom was amazing. The hotel was completely let down by the staff, & the lack of service. We booked for 2 adults &1 child as it said the room slept 3 people & that there was a sofa bed. We arrived just after 6pm & found the sofa bed was not made up. We popped down to reception to advise them & they said they would sort while we were out to dinner. When we got back from dinner, we found some sheets dumped on the sofa.....I have never paid to stay in a hotel & been expected to make the bed up myself! There was a note saying as they were under-staffed, they would appreciate it if we didn't want our room made up the next day. No offer of any compensation for this, which I know alot of other hotels offer as an incentive. Anyway, we did not chose this option, & went out for the day sightseeing/to see a show. We arrived back at around 8pm to discover our room had not been made up at all. No clean towels, nothing. We went to speak to reception & were met with a man who yawned at us, then said he could service our room the following day.....the day we were leaving. We asked for some fresh towels & left it at that. The staff at this hotel were continually disinterested. They did not smile, ask how our stay was, or care in any way. Such a shame really, as the hotel itself is so lovely in a great location, but I would never stay here again.
