Abbey Resort and Avani Spa

Great for a few easy poolside days with the kids.

Excellent and comfortable stay. Comfortable room and beds. Loved the kids pool for the family.

This stay was intended to be a relaxing mother-daughter spa treat but instead it was more like the 80’s John Candy movie Summer Vacation. It’s a rundown place and feels more like an old apartment complex than a 4 star resort. It’s looks like a good place for families - we saw lots of families with tired dads lugging too much kid stuff and angry moms shouting. Pools were full and had a lot of that white scum buildup - we didn’t even bother swimming because of the grime and vibe. The walls are super thin so we could hear everyone around us and every time a door was shut our wall rattled. The balcony is shared across the hallway of rooms which is not that big of a deal except we had people hanging out in front of ours - right in front of the windows where they could watch us on our beds and it was so awkward. We got room service breakfast and the pancakes and toast were burnt - like charred black. When I called to let them know they just said “okay, I’ll let them know.” And that was it. The spa mani/pedis we got were okay - not worth the $120 each at all. Would recommend staying somewhere else if you’re splurging for a relaxing resort/spa getaway.

The rooms are very nice and clean. The pool area is fabulous they serve soft and adult drinks as well as food and they provide pool towels. I love that the children’s pool is separate from the adults. Even older kids were in the children’s pool having a blast playing basketball. The hot tub was great. The grounds are absolutely beautiful to walk around and look at. Very quiet. It stormed last night, so my son went to the inside pool that was very nice. Unfortunately from the severe storms the cinema and the game room was flooded. We plan to be back so we’ll check it out next trip

We've been to the Abbey once before in the winter and we really liked it. We booked a summer trip and booked a pool view, I will say the pool view was disappointing because we barely had visibility to it but not a huge deal. The options of an indoor and outdoor pool in the summer is nice. There was some rowdiness by adults and kids in the indoor pool as well as the kids pool even knowing kids were around but again, it was something we were able to deal with. Not really any shopping nearby so as long as you are looking for a resort where you don't have to leave, this is perfect. The rooms are beautiful and staff is very pleasant.

First time at the property. Few complaints. Doors and door locks to the room were worn and had to make sure they were pulled hard to close. The room needed a good dusting in the corners as well. The indoor pool was nice but smelled heavily of chloramines. The men’s showers in the indoor pool area looked as if never used, no soap dispenser. The outdoor pool area was nice. The pools were cold but it was only 78 degrees outside. The kids outdoor splash pool was like a cold therapy pool and the hot tub transformed into a warm water pool. The food in the waterfront bar-grill was average. I had the fish fry 3 piece walleye only got only 2 pieces at first, had to ask for the 3rd, but paying $10-18 for a specialty drink served in plastic 9 ounce cup was a bit tacky. Knowing that my $16 old fashioned was going to be served in plastic 9oz cup I would have opted for something else. I also talked to an older gentleman at the bar who stated that the tap beer was warm and were out of many other selection’s on tap. The man told the bartender and the bartender seemed a bit grumpy. After first night stay housekeeping made the bed but never exchanged for new towels. The staff were great overall, everyone was friendly. The staff could be trained better in hospitality incorporating selling their brand. Instead of wait staff just hand out menus to customers, at least give customers a 15 second greeting about the menu. I will definitely price check again if I was to return. I for sure overpaid.

We have stayed here several times, biggest reason is convivence, however I feel like every year the property has been declining. I don't like to complain normally, and we did go on very busy weekend, so I can only imagine. 2 of our rooms were given to another family but kept under my name, so when we walked in other people's things were in there. We did get another 2 rooms but now that split our family up and makes things a lot more difficult. They came to clean our room, took our old towels and never brought new ones, that happened in 3 of our rooms. This property has great potential it just needs some TLC. The arcade has very few working games and the token machine is one of the broken machines. Some look like they work but take your money. The movie room could be so nice but just looks like nobody cares. Coffee shop was ok but the display case was empty, fill it people need quick things they can just grab and go.

It’s an older resort that is updated and HUGE! Such a great family friendly resort. We can’t wait to go back!

Very beautiful resort! Definitely will be coming back for a whole weekend stay as it was just overnight for Mother’s Day and of course, we had the kids so we weren’t able to fully enjoy some of the adult amenities.

Really nice to stay with your family for a weekend.
