Candlewood Suites Reading, an IHG Hotel

Stayed at the Candlewood with two kids (9&15) and my wife to visit my MIL. Location is good - there is a bar/ restaurant at the end of the car park and West Reading Main street with a diner and other restaurants/ facilities is at the end of the street. Room was a good size for 4 of us and clean. All facilities (hot plates, microwave, fridge freezer) worked and were clean. Staff were friendly and helpful from check in onwards. One issue with a bug had the maintenance man knocking on the door to resolve within 15 mins. I would stay here again.

Just one night after a Christmas day with family.

Front desk staff was very helpful,friendly, and thoughtful. Room was great, very spacious and homey. So many food options within walking distance. Our family loved it. We will be back again!

Had requested adjoining rooms - told at check-in they don’t have any. They had our room and my elderly mother’s room on separate floors. We were told there was nothing they could do as they were fully booked. The next two guests that came to check in after us were booked on the same floor as my mom. This worked out as they were family members, but the girl checking us all in had no way of knowing this. Not sure why she couldn’t have put us in one of their rooms and moved them up a floor - there had been no special requests from them and at least one of their rooms was the same type as ours. Also - no shower curtain in the bathroom - called the desk and was told to come down and get one - then had to put it up ourselves.

One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. The front desk clerk was on her cell phone talking loudly and using inappropriate words with friends and family. The manager seem to be oblivious. I had to wait over an hour to check into my room. I watched guests leave and check out and they also seemed extremely disgruntled and not satisfied.

Overall stay was comfortable except for the bed...Way to soft. restaurants and family were close to the hotel
