The Umstead Hotel and Spa

I went to check-in while my husband parked the car, and was told that they could not check me in until my husband was present even though I was the one who made the reservation. I usually book reservations under his name because he is the one that normally checks in, but have never had this issue at any other hotel we have visited. I felt like a child being reprimanded and had to go wait in the lobby until he arrived. I understand rules, but we have the last name and I had the credit card it was booked under...just an annoying way to start the visit. We also arrived back to the hotel that night after dinner to find our door was not shut all the way. I always make sure it is closed, but did not know they have a turn down service and can only assume when they left they didn’t check to make sure the door was all the way shut. Again, a little annoyed because who knows how long it was completely open for someone else to walk in. The facilities were well maintained, but I would not stay at this location again based on my overall experience.
