We were excited to stay in this older hotel.
Colts Neck is a very nice city and this hotel was supposedly recently renovated.
Slapping a coat of paint on everything, including water damaged, unrepaired areas is NOT "renovating".
We knew they allowed pets, but we weren't travelling with any. There was dogs**t on the steps from the back parking lot!!!
There was a broken, hanging by a thread, BUT "renovated" with a coat of paint, shutter hanging from one of the rooms in back.
Our plans originally had us there 3 nights, but thankfully they were changed to only 1 night with our NY family requesting us over there instead. Either way, we would have never stayed another night for several more reasons:
--one of our 2 rooms smelled like a harsh chemical.
--the blinds did not close 100%, with a walkway right outside our 1st floor units
--the water coming out of the shower ACTUALLY SMELLED!!! Had to spray body spray on and wash my face at family's house just to get rid of the stink!
The one positive I can add for those who care...there were zero bugs of any kind...no bed bugs, dead bugs, ants, or roaches anywhere to be found. If you're like me, and read the reviews of places you stay (and I do travel quite a bit), the dreaded "bed bug" review will almost always have me looking elsewhere. Well, the Colts Neck Inn had so many positive reviews that if there was a bug comment, it was an obviously pissed off customer.
I'm not pissed off.
I never even complained.
I just moved on the next day.

I visited overnight with myself and my 3 kids - two 11 year olds and 1 toddler. When I checked in, I requested that we get a roll-away cot as the 11 year olds did not want to share a bed. It was brought in immediately, no problem, and my son said that it was very comfortable. The hotel is beautiful - old building which was either beautifully maintained or beautifully restored. Rooms were clean and it was great to have an in-room refrigerator and microwave. Bathroom had an abundance of towels and a generous amount of personal care items. We loved that there was complimentary coffee available at all times and the kids loved that there were cookies available. The morning continental breakfast was perfect - bagels, waffles, different breads, cereal, yogurt, fruit and a few other grab & go breakfast items. My kids LOVED that there were board games that they could borrow and we definitely utilized that since it stormed in the evening. Overall, this has a B&B feel with the personal touches throughout - but without the necessary 'socialization' that you tend to have at B&Bs. Only took us about 15 minutes to get to Ocean Grove beach, which has free parking. We loved it and would absolutely stay here again.

This is a lovely independent inn! There were fresh flowers in the room and at breakfast. The bagels were delicious and clearly local. We got the large family room and we loved the games and chalkboard wall and 3 beds!

It's a shame...this was probably at one time, when it was new, a nice hotel. The Colt's Neck Inn restaurant has been there since I was a kid in the 1960s. My Father used to take us there for lunch on Saturdays. The hotel wasn't there then; it was built in the 80's or 90's?
I never stayed there but figured it must be nice. Colts Neck is a very nice area...I grew up in neighboring Holmdel. My Mom and Stepdad stayed there once in the early 2000's . I wasn't impressed. Their room was damp and musty.
I booked a rom there recently for a business stay-over and thought I would give it a try. The setting, lobby and hallways are country-like rustic and made me think of the coming Fall. But the room was a huge disappointment. Each room once had central A/C and heating like real hotels, but they are now non-operational and have been replaced with window units. This means that the nice wood blinds can't be lowered all the way and they've clipped a cheap opaque paper blind to the window...it looks horribly cheap and you can't make the room dark for a good sleep. The wall paint was chipped in several areas, the toilet looked like it wasn't completely clean...and the bed...HORRIBLE. The mattress was a squeaky, springy box, like something bought at the lowest budget store.
I also had to wait to check in, with only one couple ahead of me. I waited for probably about 20 minutes, the LONGEST I've ever had to wait for a hotel check-in.
In all,a huge disappointment. DO NOT stay at this place!

The staff were friendly and the hotel made a good base for our family outings. Breakfast was was simple self serve but had enough variety. The hotel is a bit dated though, and could do with some refurbishment, but was clean. AC was quite loud.

We like this hotel and come here every time we visit family in Monmouth County NJ. Has a nice warm character and is clean. My only complaint is that the breakfast room is too small for social distancing. I found it very crowded and not COVID safe. And no one wearing masks.

We rented the family room and the adjoining king room. There were games to play and a chalk wall that our 3 year old loved.
