Candlewood Suites Alexandria, an IHG Hotel

My family and I were in town for a softball tournament. Upon initial check-in we were given our room key. We open the door to the room and there were paint cans and other materials everywhere. I called the front desk and she was ever accommodating by placing us in another room. The room was clean for the most part. However, the curtains had dark stains on them, the light fixtures in the bathroom were rusted, and there was a bug on one of the beds. Not an awful hotel, but I won’t be staying at this location again.

The reservation was for a room with 2 beds for myself and my 2 children. Upon checkin I was given a room with 1 queen bed because there were no more rooms available. Then at 5:15 AM someone else was attempting to enter my room with a key because they booked in the same room.

I booked this hotel early to get the good savings. I had 3 people in my family and therefore booked a room with 2 double beds. Upon arriving I find out that they decided to give my room to someone else so that they could make more money off of it with the softball tournament in town- hotels love to price gouge families when they find out about the tournaments- anyway without an email, call, text or any early warning of the change we arrive to find out that we have been given a room with 1 bed for 3 grown bodied people to sleep in( no couch either). Really!!! They didn't even care that they put us in this situation either. Very oh well, sorry not our problem you booked through third party( hotels.com) Well excuse me greedy people- whatever happened to honoring paid for contracts- you agree to work with these third parties, therefore you should honor them!!! I mean at the very least a heads up so we could prepare- they could care less that someone was gonna be sleeping on the floor!!! Also, if I had booked this room with one bed I would have paid less, but you think they let me have the room I got stuck with at the lower rate- NOPE! Kept my original payment for the 2 bedroom!!! Sorry greedy business people!!! I will not stay here again!!!😡😡😡😡 We weren't the only family this happened to either!!!

First impression upon driving up to the front door, was gsrbage cans were overflowing & trash littwred the entrance. Staff was nice. Check in was fast no issues, the rest of the experience was not good. The hall carpets are worn & dirty. The place has an odor. Our room was dirty. Long hair & whiskers were all over the bathroom. Mildew in shower, something terribly sticky on hars floor surfaces. Stainage on one of the comforters. By the time we got there we had been in the car for 12 hrs. It was later in the evening, we were exhausted and were traveling with a toddler, so we just stayed the one night, & decised never to stay again. I do not recommend this hotel.

I arrive earlier than expected. Lashanda was helpful and provided me with key without me asking. This allowed me to go visit family and return without having to wait.

Front desk messed up 3 families staying with us reservation and gave them the wrong room type. Rooms smell musty and not super clean. Very outdated.
