The hotel is strategically located next to Ala Moana Centre, the major shopping and transport hub in Hawaii. The room is large and comfortable, especially ocean view room. The availability of microwave make simple cooking possible and suitable for family travellers. The hotel has a good swimming pool, well equipped fitness centre which also has steam bath and Sauna available. There are also plenty of eateries, supermarkets nearby and hence food is not a problem at all. I will recommend the hotel to tourists who visit Hawaii.

We rented two rooms, one for our children.
The mattress in our room was worn out which made sleeping uncomfortable. We decided not to request a replacement considering we would be at the hotel for few days.
One of my children saw a cockroach on the wall. We raised the issue and all they did was to give as another room for my children. Not that I was expecting annything else’s but an apology or any form of remorse would have been nice.
Location is good. The hotel is 20 min walk from Waikiki, 5 min to a premium mall and 10 min from the beach.

The room was small. I had my 10 year old daughter sleeping on the sofa bed. Mall is adjacent to the property but the beach is far for young kids to walk to. Great for people that want to party at Ala Moana bars since it’s walking distance. Not great for families.

The Ala Moana by Mantra Hotel was above average yet, for the price it could have been better with the switching of a better quieter floor that you would have to go down to the next floor down to get ice from the ice machine. And housekeeping did not give bath soap and enough towels for a 3 person occupancy. The coffee maker in our room was not working. The restaurants in the hotel are ridiculously overpriced. I am not sure if our stay was worth the price and I would not recommend this hotel to my friends or family. I could have probably got a better stay with a lower price at the Marriott.

Staff & service were lovely. The property itself is 'average.' Clean enough, adequate for me on a business trip, but would have been really disappointed if I came here for a special family trip.
It was annoying that I couldn't do a room charge for breakfast or sundries.
Parking was additional $25/day.

Heidi at the front desk was terrific! Efficient, friendly and knowledgeable! It was a family reunion and we all had a great time. Will return next year!

Helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are older but good. Comfortable beds and we had a table with 2 chairs to sit at. We also really liked sitting on our balcony. The lobby is nice with a Starbucks. Housekeeping did a great job and always said good morning with a smile.
If you have a late flight, at 7am on the day you’re leaving you can pay a discounted fee to stay until 6pm if your room isn’t going to another guest. The front desk actually allowed us to stay to 7pm when we had to leave for the airport.
The hotel has a bridge where you can go to the Ala Moana Mall next door. You’re also a short walk to Don Quijote which is a large Japanese grocery store with several food shops. It’s about a 40 min walk to Waikiki. It’s cooler and windier near the hotel than Waikiki.
Near the hotel and mall, you will likely see a few homeless people including sleeping on the street. They were asleep or kept to themselves. You’ll also see a lot of locals too so I wouldn’t say it’s a rundown area so much as a mixed area. The convention center is very close too. There’s a locals beach a short 15 min walk away with lots of families directly across from the mall.
The pool is a good size with lots of comfortable seating and you can buy food beside it just inside or go to the lobby level to their shop to buy snacks.
Good food options nearby: Foodland bentos, Don Quijote bentos, Liliha Bakery (the bakery part and their sit down restaurant for meals), Hokkaido Ramen, and Upon Waffle.

This is our 3rd time at Ala Moana and we can't wait to come back. Staff is efficient and friendly. Walking distance to the beach, shopping, and restaurants. Major plus is the Starbucks in the lobby, but if you want to beat the crowd they have a great café on the 3rd floor with amazing food and delightful caffeine options. Double bed room was perfect for our family of 4 (daughters 8 & 10). You won't regret it!!!

Hotel itself is very quiet. Only shower water noise when someone uses it. Outside (behind the bldg) can be noisy — yelling neighbors (!!!? Guess somebody had bad day with his family), car alarm, trash truck— depending on where your room is located.
