Staff a bit uneven, at check in wonderful and arranged everything for me and my kid perfectly but at checkout in the afternoon the two staff just talked to each other and did not help with transport, our bags nor said good bye. Hotel is nice and modern and if you travel with children that likes bunk beds then it’s perfect. Location is central.

Wonderful staff. Location isn’t great. The hotel was under construction and it began at 8am so there was no sleeping in. The lower floors on one side have a view of a brick wall - a bit claustrophobic. Their gym is great and the staff is wonderful. Nice rooftop bar. For someone staying for a day or two and plans to be out for most of day, this hotel is fine. Do not recommend the hotel for families or long stays.

No hot water on first day. Short staffed at the counter. Small room for family.

Property, staff, and room were great. Outside the property is downtown city life. Dirty, smelly, homeless, mentally ill, and tons of people no matter what time of day. I would never stay here with my children and go out for a stroll. I think this environment is for adults. I only stayed here for a Cap One event. I would stay at the Motto again for an event only. Otherwise, not a place I would want to come back to visit, but only due to life on the streets. Not quite sure why the government of DC hasn't made much effort to go beyond the museum and White House perimeter to make this a city pleasing and safe to visit. It is very sad to see such disparity.

We booked a room here for 2 nights to attend the Luis Miguel concert at the capitol one arena. If you’re a single person or couple looking for the best closest hotel to the arena this is the best location possible. If you’re a family with kids this probably isn’t the best location due to the size of the rooms. This is like a micro hotel in regards to the size of the rooms. It’s perfect for a night or two for two people. There is a great whiskey bar on the basement level, rooftop restaurant which is nice, and parking is convenient inside the gallery plaza. The hotel validated my parking ticket which made it a lot more affordable $25 per night. The area around the hotel is “Chinatown” it’s not the best area but we didn’t feel unsafe or anything during our visit just a little dirty streets and homeless people hanging around which is typical this day and time in the city so it comes with the territory. Overall 5 star for the hotel and the staff.

Simple, comfortable hotel with rooms on the smaller side. Very centrally located - which is good for being able to walk to DC's major tourist attractions but bad for noise. The area is very loud well into the night, so bring earplugs. Wouldn't recommend for families with young children, but a good choice for adults who want to avoid the hassle of driving in DC.

Here’s the main issue….I’ve stayed at micro hotel brands many times (Moxy, citizenM, etc) and while the rooms are very small the common space is very nice and inviting. The Motto DC had (kid you not) one couch, 3 chairs of common space (nuts!) Sure there was a nice diner and whiskey bar on the property but you couldn’t sit there before open hour and then of course you’re expected to buy something. This is not the model of your competitors selling small rooms!! Fix this!!

My favorite thing about this place IS THE STAFF!!! From the friendly, helpful folks who checked me in and assisted me with everything, to the incredibly sweet and caring staff at the Crimson Bar who literally brought me to tears with their thoughtfulness (long story!), I can't wait to come back into town again! They really felt like my family for 2 days :)

Room was nice but smaller than I expected. Full size shower supplies was a nice surprise. Pillows were to soft for my taste but adequate. Not really a family hotel. I would not bring my 10yr old with me to stay here. Overall my solo stay was enjoyable.

We LOVED our stay here! The room was nice and modern, and it was super close to most of the Smithsonian museums and restaurants. The micro hotel rooms probably wouldnt be great for families or large groups, but were perfect for a couple
