The Citizen Hotel, Autograph Collection

Excellent hotel. Beautiful, historic and friendly staff. Conveniently located to East sac near family. Lots of homeless people camped nearby. We didn’t experience any issues but good to know especially if your parking on the street.

Booked this room way in advance and both of my bookings were wrong when we arrived, they gave our rooms away and couldn’t accommodate us all together which was the main reason we booked at this place in the first place to try to keep our older family members in the same room since they are international travelers and are not familiar with the area. We literally we’re separated into three different floors very last minute and were short a bed. I wouldn’t even go back to this place if it was free. They never followed up with us about compensating us for the huge inconvenience. The decor can’t make up for their shortcomings in Human Resources. Take your money elsewhere.

We love the location of The Citizen and the building. However, it looks a bit run down in the lifts and the room was quite dirty--cobwebs on the valance and dust and fingerprints on the mirrors. One of the doors on the armoire was next to impossible to open and close. A radio alarm sounded at 5.45 Sunday morning and the hotel cut our wireless connection and Amazon sign up at 9.30, which made getting packed and ready more challenging with a child and conducting business.

The carpet was extra dirty. The bathroom was big but the bath tub was so small that we could not shower with the kid. The smell from someone going to the toilet leak into the bedroom. The amount of homeless I front of hotel make you feel unsafe. The staff was friendly and helpful but the rest was not up to par.

The hotel itself was nice. But as a family of 4 with two small children, the location was a little sketch. We had an early flight and had to get our car from valet at 5am when it was still dark. The hotel entrance was locked and no one was outside (security) and there were many homeless people. My 4 year old was scared of a man having a night terror in the park across the way. I loaded the kids up solo, would have felt more comfortable with some sort of security or even another person with me.

My family and I enjoyed our stay. The hotel was comfortable and the service was excellent.
