Holiday Inn BIRMINGHAM - HOOVER, an IHG Hotel

The interior of the building has recently undergone a renovation. It looked great and everything was very clean and modern. However, the staff were mostly unhelpful and unfriendly. There was a point when my daughter and I were locked out of our room for 30 minutes and no one was at the front desk - in the middle of the day. It made us borderline late to her basketball game. I ended up leaving and driving her to Dick's to buy new shorts instead of waiting around another 30 minutes. It says breakfast is served at 6:30am, but it's really served at 7am. And it's not worth the money. We were the 3rd family through and they had already ran out of bacon and bagels. Save your money - go to Chickfila around the corner. Not to mention the lady running the breakfast was unfriendly and short. Finally, it boasts a restaurant, but it was either not opened or unstaffed during our stay. There wasn't a single person in that area the entire 72 hours stay (Friday - Sunday).

Hotel was generally clean and quiet but we did not get the room we reserved, the toilet would not flush, and the water temperature was extremely difficult to control. We used Expedia to book a suite with a jetted tub (my wife had fallen recently and she was looking forward to the jets providing some relief from her aches and pains). Sheff we arrived after a long day of traveling, we were informed that the suite were all full. The receptionists initially stated that the 3rd party sites (Expedia) are not always 'up to date' on what is available but later changed her story when trying to get me to sign up for the IHG rewards plan. She told me that rewards members have priority becoming a member might prevent me from getting bumped again. If we were not so tired, I would have walked out right then and there. We were given a standard room and comped breakfast each day and 1 free drink for each of us. (We used the free breakfast on the 2nd day, before checking out, but never went to the bar). Once in the room, I used the restroom, then my wife. Worked fine for me, but when my wife tried to flush, it did not work. After a brief troubleshooting, we realized that the tank was just refilling VERY slowly, and we were able to flush again in about 30 minutes. Since we were in town to visit family, and did not spend much time in the room, there was not much effect, just annoying. Although not enough to warrant finding another hotel right away, we will never return.

The pool is under construction which ruined my kids weekend. The hotel is out of date with no early check in.

Nothing major of note, but with several children we were planning to swim most of the weekend. We arrived to the hotel to find it was under construction, my son can be difficult in understanding. This was one of the more expensive hotels I've booked for 2 nights. some form of communication qhen booking the room would have been insightful sonincould have picked another hotel. It made the stay more difficult.

Your service is completely horrible. I arrived and was told you overbooked the hotel and I DID NOT HAVE A ROMM DUE TO THIS!!!!! I had to drive when I was too tired and put my family at risk due to no room! Then the only other room they could find us was 2 hours away. That room was disgusting! We were so tired we laid out our blankets on the bed slept for 2 hours then left! IT was horrible and we felt unsafe!
