Sonesta ES Suites Birmingham Homewood

I hate to say but this was by the worst stay we have ever had at Sonesta ES. We went down upon getting into our room and let Candy at the front desk know the condition of our room. She felt bad, yet we still have not heard anything back. She was bothered by the situation and said she would talk to the night manager behind her after she got off the phone. I went down to the lobby as soon as we got into our room to let them know and show with photos the issues. There was hair all over the bathroom walls, some sort of liquid on the ceiling in the shower, hair on the towels, bathroom door was broken and split at the bottom making it rub along the floor when even attempting to close. Chairs at little table were damaged and the room smelt and still smells like a wet mildew basement. We have stay here 2-3 times a year for the past 4 years and this is the first and most disappointing stay. I’m praying we don’t get sick and unfortunately we have no other place to go. Again I came w/ photos to show the front desk and she was shocked as well as grossed out. I cleaned the bathroom with what I could find but after flying all day and driving 3 hours to arrive to this it not a let down. We love staying here in the past & now with pending reservations for 3 rooms in May I’m quite concerned to say the least as we also have family coming in out of state & the odor of a musty mildew basement is not ok. Going on day 3, still no word from mgmt. Typical of Motel 6 not Sonesta ES.

Found this hotel to be very roomy and clean! Breakfast was hot and offered a variety of options and the kitchen attendant was very helpful everyday. The room came with a kitchenette which was very clean. Also, the AC is an individual central unit which was really nice. I had left a higher priced hotel because of the lack of humidity control in the room. When I realized I needed to stay a few days longer, they even let me keep my room and not have to check out and check in though I went through an online 3rd party booking app. The front desk hotel attendant even remembered my name. Overall, there was just a really nice and personal atmosphere here (I didn't feel like a number). The hotel is located in a convenient place (near stores/Walmart/restaurants, close by, I-65) and a safe well patrolled location. Visiting family member receiving critical care at UAB hospital.

We were travelling for a baseball tourney and ready to settle in and sleep. Upon check-in we were greeted with the warmest smile and sweetest woman! A super hard worker and sweet as Alabama tea! She told us that the hotel is being remodeled soon but they had already finished some projects. The rooms were clean and comfy. We felt very safe. It was me and 2 kiddos and I never worried about them. Breakfast included premade sandwiches (3 different types) that were hot and delicious. We were able to grab and go which was delightful for us. The last day they had sausage gravy and homemade biscuits.....OMG YUM! I only had to call to the front desk once and it was for extra towels.....they arrived at my door in less than 5 minutes. The service here is impeccable! Thank you for making me a new sonesta suites believer. Next time we're up there we will be sure to stay again!

Property is in a great location and lobby is very nice. We didn't swim but the pool and courtyard looked very nice too. Our room was comfortable as were the beds. The beauty of this property for us (family of 5) was the two bedroom suites. We had 2 queen beds and a pull out couch which was really nice. There were some cleanliness and maintenance things in the room but nothing serious. The re-fillable shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles had some built up dirt or mildew on them. Bathroom door didn't latch when closed. All in all, we would come back. The biggest thing we were put off by was the breakfast. We stayed Friday night into Saturday, one of the reasons we picked this location was the free breakfast and the 2 room suites. Well breakfast on Saturday ends at 8:30am, which for a family coming for a weekend is worthless. We are getting up around 8-8:30am on Saturday. You might as well not have a breakfast if you're going to end it so early. I mean most hotel breakfasts are nothing to write home about, but at least they are something. Ending at 8:30am on a Saturday is essentially offering nothing.

Let’s see where do we start? Get to the room it smells like mold. It’s hot so we turn on their air conditioning. Hopefully the smell will go away. Well that does not work. Try to fix my son something to eat. Wash a fork. I get sprayed all over with water from the sink faucet go down to the front desk. Explain of all the issues that I got. They tell me there’s nothing they can do that they’re totally booked so it was a miserable night. Wake up the next morning after not being able to sleep take a shower from sweating so bad, and the fire alarm goes off from the steam scared my wife wakes up my kid and dog also got scared. Wife is scared as we think the place is on fire when it’s just from the shower, jump out the shower, real quick, soaking wet wife slips hurts herself and I can go on but we’ll just leave it at that. I travel a lot and this has to be the worst place I have ever stayed at and service so horrible no refund nothing to accommodate you for all you had to go through. It was miserable lesson learned.

The hotel staff is the best. They appear to be genuinely committed to making your experience during your stay the best. All the way from the front desk, the lounge during breakfast, down to housekeeping are all very nice people and constantly check in with you to make sure you’re doing ok. Ms. Jackie (you can find her during the breakfast hours) will even ask if your family is okay and make sure you have what you need. You have a choice on many hotels but they make sure you’ll want to choose them.

This property is very deceiving with photographs. Not a family oriented property.

Big hotel three different buildings check in and offices are in the main building and then you have two other buildings but only the two entry doors one in each building and neither buildings connect to each other, you can exit from different about four different doors in each each building but it’s only one entry door for each building, my room was on the third floor and the last room on that floor which was a distance from the elevator otherwise it was a nice hotel. One elevator in each building each building has 3 floors. my room faced the interstate could not hear a thing slept like a baby.

Served the purpose for my family

Horrible stay. My room had no air. The smoke detectors go off if you take a shower which traumatized my 7 month old baby. Will not be returning or using this chain of hotels if ever in Alabama again and I love Sonesta usually 😌
