Holiday Inn Southampton, an IHG Hotel

The room has a terrible mould smell, when I spoke with reception they told me that wasn’t possible as the room was used daily and just sent a person to spray air freshener, the person that came to that realises the smell was really strong and apologised but they told me there was nothing they could do because the hotel was fully booked and since I had already paid for my room they couldn’t give me a refund, so they just refunded me what I had payed for the parking. Mould is really bad for your health we were a family of 4, that room should not have been available for anyone, they were doing some works on floors above and we could hear the water dripping and that’s what caused the mould, the wall I the toilet was wet and smelled terrible, the next morning they switched the water off and the dripping stopped but I honestly believe that room was NOT adequate for anyone to stay there. I was really disappointed, we went there to celebrate my husbands bday and the experience did spoil our stay there

Great stay with my family, everything was perfect

We booked this due to the proximity to the Royal Caribbean Cruise line dock with very little expectations other than a bed for the night. I have to say we left feeling amazed. It's true the building isn't attractive and looks a little tired from the outside but we had a great stay. We parked in the disabled parking right out the front for blue badge holders and as a result were exempt from paying the £15 parking charge. We were then greeted by Marianna at the reception desk and she was delightful, pleasant professional and very helpful. As it was a last minute switch we knew I didn't have an accessible room however a lift serviced all floors and as an ambulant wheelchair user was able to access my room and toilet. We were on the 4th floor so upon coming back down to the restaurant for dinner Mariana joined us an completed my own Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan. This was fantastic and the first time any hotel I've stayed at has proactively completed this. She checked if I needed any additional equipment to be able to see or hear the fire alarm and confirmed how I would be evacuated. This was then stored on file and shared with the night porter Dominik who was also a credit to holiday Inn. He set up the bedroom for us as a family of 3 and also gave us some of his time to tell us about the cruise ship. We had a pleasant dinner, a good night's sleep (better than most hotels we've stayed in) and a lovely breakfast. Honestly we booked expecting very little and left delighted.

I was there to see family. Car rental was next door which was convenient.
