Down Hall Hotel

Dog friendly hotel close to Stansted which fitted what we needed for a handover of a dog before a flight and it was a special family treat for Christmas. Extremely friendly and courteous staff, they were all outstanding from reception to dining room and bar, everyone. Lovely rooms prepared with pride.

We stayed here for a family wedding and everything was perfect from start to finish. The hotel and grounds are lovely and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again

The staff was amazing very helpful as i had a new born baby and forgot my bottle warmer. Staff are trained to a high level very poliet . The food is amzing and the room was very big and clean and tidy i would staybhere again.

Stayed for two nights for a family wedding. Really comfortable. Fabulous spa

We were only staying for 1 night, 5 hrs to drive and then allocated a room with a view over the car park, quite disappointing given the nightly rate. The pillows were awful and in desperate need of replacing, staff aren’t particularly welcoming, warm or friendly. Breakfast was really poor, no turn down service in the room. I have a bad back and struggled to open some of the doors to get to our room. We also booked the spa and couldn’t use the thermal pool as it was freezing, steam room didn’t work and the loungers outside had no covers and the area and floor is filthy. Hotel ordered us a taxi and they charge us £28 to go 5 miles yet we only paid a local cab £12 to return!! I think on check out guests should be asked if everything is/was okay but the guy seemed more interested in whether we had any extras to pay for and clearly uninterested if we were happy guests. I had such high expectations from the website but this is just a very mediocre hotel pretending to be something it isn’t! We will not be returning and we will not be recommending this hotel to our family and friends.

Fantastic hotel with wonderful staff. Spent a night there with the family and the dog and the place was great. Huge grounds for walks with the dog and a wonderful doggy welcome package. The Fox Bar was great and the wife was able to enjoy the spa. Will be back for sure!

Check in was friendly informative and very helpful,Megan very professional and extremely well presented as welcoming front of house,very attentive and thorough in details,feeling like the only guests there which was a personal touch,sheldon excelled in customer care,also was extremely understanding when we brought to his attention our room was very clostraphobic and needed a little more space to be comfortable,sheldon didn’t question he just upgraded with care and concern! Our stay was impeccable and more than wee could have expected,definitely will return and recommend to all our friends and family, Ps sheldon did explain and out rooms so next time we would go for the 4 poster room,next time will try bar and restaurant,foyer and hallways no noisy doors banging or creaking,floors and stairs no noise which is one thing I have never experienced in a properly of 149 years old,also outside garden furniture was perfect,we stay at hotels every week for business and do try to try most,anytime we are in this area we would like to stay here as this experience was exceptional. Did take advantage of the courteous late check out at 12,due to the comfort and quietnesses we overslept till 145 pm were not disturbed untill 2pm and still no fuss made!were completely understanding,checked out with no problems Would like to thank all staff for making our experience a memorable one, Do you have a loyalty scheme available to regular clients ? We were her for a very special 60th Birthday. The dining staff were unhelpful and rude last night. there we re 9 of us and they would not sit us altogether we had to sit on 2 separate tables. The steak order had to go back as what not recorded correclty, we then waited 30 minutes for its return, by this time everyone else had finished their meal. The staff were rude, created an atmosphere and then went on to argue with us. We lft the dining room becuase of the rudeness. The issue is the night before, my meal was missed off of the orders completely and again all the family had finished their dinner and then mine turned up. An overall horrendous experience, that we would never go back to. STICK TO WARNERS FOLKS!!!

Highly recommended Downhall Hotel from concierge to restaurant staff, friendly and happy to help. Beautiful nature grounds, pamper spa, overall relaxing. Dogs welcome for doggy families too. Looking forward to visiting again
