Strandhill Lodge and Suites

We were here over the August bank holiday weekend and our stay couldn't have been more pleasant. It's in a convenient location for touring Sligo - it's obviously close to the beaches of Strandhill and Cullenamore, but Sligo itself is just a short drive up the Strandhill road, with access to all the major attractions a short drive on from there. We were up for a family reunion, so we weren't planning to do much touring. The breakfast is continental-style, but very good. A couple of small changes I'd like to see would be the addition of some hard-boiled eggs, and it would be nice if the breakfast room was a little larger, although we never had any issues finding a table. The room we stayed in was excellent, with a superb bathroom and very large, comfortable bed. Everything was spotlessly clean and well presented. We had a view of nearby Knocknarea (which we climbed on the last day), and presumably other rooms would have had a view of the sea. There was ample parking, despite being at the height of the season. The hotel is right next door to The Venue, a superb bar and restaurant, serving quality food and live music (a grand night out all round). There are other fine restaurants and pubs just a stone's throw away, of course. The staff are friendly, courteous and professional, so we felt well taken care of, but not fussed over (which is exactly how we like it). It seems that the hotel suits all types: anyone looking for a quiet weekend, young families, business trips (there's a conference room), or a young couple such as ourselves. Don't forget to try a seaweed bath at Voya (just down the road by the beach) - ask for a discount, we got one since we were staying at the hotel. It's worth it. We look forward to returning here in the near future and will probably bring family and friends here next time.
