My kids and I loved Hotel Luna Llena! We appreciated that although everything is in walking distance, we felt like tucked away from the craziness of the night life. The staff is welcoming and warm. Hotel Luna Llena is perfect for travelers who are looking for a well-maintained, relaxing, and family-compatible smaller hotel that provides a perfect base station for exploring Tamarindo. Highly recommended!

This hotel was a little oasis. We were worried that Tamarindo was doing to be too busy and touristy but this hotel was located at the quiet end of the beach, which was only a short walk away. There are restaurants and shops within walking distance. We traveled as a family and ate most nights at a little group of food trucks, which weren't as expensive as the beach restaurants. The pool was lovely to cool down in after spending the mornings at the beach. We were in a standard room on the bottom floor of the main building and couldn't hear our neighbours at all. In the day, there was some construction or maintenance going on, which was a bit loud but not too bad. In the evening the room was totally quiet. No traffic noise at all because the hotel is at the end of a little dead-end cul-de-sac. The room we were in didn't have blackout curtains, which allowed beautiful light. However, I recommend traveling with an eye mask because it gets light early. The air conditioner worked well, plus there was a fan, fridge, microwave and tv in the room. The hotel's front staff were very friendly. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Our stay was good, but definitely not praising this place as much as others. The hotel manager was VERY nice and super helpful. The interesting thing is that when reading previous reviews, they praised the staff. That was not the case for us. We found them extremely unfriendly. There is one woman, who may be the office manager? She was almost to the point of being rude to us. The women who served breakfast made no attempt to smile or greet us. We stayed for seven days. On day 4, I requested that our sheets be changed. It didn’t happen. On day 5, I asked Russell and it did happen, but not without angry looks from the staff. I understand the language barrier, but this was different. They seemed hostile towards us, which is not something that we have experienced in Costa Rica on our many visits. This is a three star resort and we expected three star, not four or five. But…our family did book a full week with three rooms, so minimally, I would expect a smile and clean sheets. Sorry Russell! You have your work cut out for you.

This was a treat to stay at during our 15-day trip around Costa Rica with 3 days in Tamarindo. It's small and quiet but quite unique and the villas were perfect for our family of 4. Would definitely stay here again.
