Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa

I like this hotel. Very clean and comfortable. We ordered room service - quick and tasty. The mineral springs were the highlight. WE loved the water slide. Grounds are keep clean and feel extremely safe. All staff was extremely helpful and friendly except for the bar tenders. Not sure what was up with that. The one at the hotel was grumpy, didn't want to get us any drinks and was more interested in watching his computer screen. The ones at the pool / spa were a bit better and the ones at the Shangri-La were ok. Shangri-La was very relaxing and the place to be - an area for hotel guest only & no kids. Since the hotel is so far from town and anything food and drink prices were double what I would expect to pay. But the other option is to take the $20 cab ride into town. I would recommend staying here a night or two then move into town.

This is my second time staying at Tabacon. You must at least stay 2 nights to fully enjoy. Great place to bring kids. Our group ranged from ages 7-40. It may seem expensive to stay, but if you factor in the cost of going to hot springs and the expansive breakfast, then its well worth every penny. I wouldn't do any excursions from here. Just enjoy the hot springs and the view of the volcano!

Lovely hotel, huge room that was more than big enough for a family of 4. They provided a rollaway cot at no additional charge as the pull-out couch was too narrow for 2 people. Food at the restaurants was pricey. After the first day we went elsewhere for dinner, but enjoyed the breakfasts which were varied, delicious and had lots of Costa Rican choices.
