Residence Inn by Marriott Whitby

Our booking was overbooked and we were put into a one bedroom suite for five people. We had booked a two bedroom suite with two bathrooms. No additional cost was available and one of the kids was forced to sleep on the sofa cushions on the floor. Everything in the area was fully booked so we had no choice. Fortunately it was for one night only. No contact was made with us beforehand and we only found out about this issue when we checked in.

Was in a suite. Door to toilet/shower would not close due to stone lip at floor. This door is awkward & too large. Faceplates to outlets cracked and scratched finger. Bedroom too small for bed - end of bed only had a foot of space before dresser with oversized tv. Walls not soundproofed at all. Could hear loud families in adjacent suites and guy in suite below was coughing all night. Breakfast was average buffet style. Fridge was not cleaned out - bits of food left from previous guest.

We recentlt staywd here over the May ling weekend and overall we had a great stay at this property. However, the common areas (pool, fitness centre) were not up to standard re cleanliness. The fitness centre had food all over the floor and the pool had clumps of hair and spiders floating in it. Not only that, took my kids on sunday morning for a swim and had to get out asap as noticed puke floating in it and then had to go to front desk to advise them as well as ask for towels as there werw none availble.

Super clean and loved the layout of the room. Breakfast had decent options. Sofa bed was dreadful, even for the kids. I also didn’t like how the price of the room fluctuated daily. At one point, the same room was listed for $949!?! Some parents had to stay at a different hotel because the prices became outrageous. That shouldn’t be allowed.

I had a great stay with my kids, only 2 issues I see needs attention is , hot tub needs good cleaning every three days, and toilet seats needs to be stable.

We have stayed at The Marriott in Gravenhurst, 5 Star! In Whitby the room was good. Check-in easy, friendly staff. The morning breakfast was not good!!! Too many people, so congested. Bad layout. Lots of kids making waffles, hard to get to the cereal station. Line up for coffee, no cream. Oatmeal runny, soggy eggs. We know it's included but, not good

Front desk staff, Shume, was rude and unhelpful when I asked to pay my bill with cash. She insisted on using my credit card that I provided to Expedia and I had no control as to whether they would charge my card or not. This is after I called prior to check in to confirm my preferred payment method and confirmed with the other front desk girl upon checkin that I would be using cash, not my credit card. At first glance the room was very clean… but after the initial few moments I noticed a lot of grime and dirt in various places which was disappointing since I don’t enjoy living in filth, let alone other peoples filth! Outside had piles of garbage at the side as well. Gym… about an 8x10 room with extremely limited equipment. We opted out. Pool area would probably be used by children only as we intended on enjoying a swim but did not find it very inviting. Breakfast was available and we took part on the first day but found the food to be quite tasteless and cheap. We went to Starbucks for the rest of our stay. We will not ever go back, most particularly because I do not appreciate being treated badly and I don’t enjoy living in dirt.

Staff was excellent. Pool was great for the kids. Bed in suite was comfortable. Sofa bed was atrocious. It shouldn't be used as a bed at all. Think of the worst camp cot you ever slept on. At the complimentary breakfast, everyone was complaining about the sofa beds - people I didn't even know were chiming in and saying they were instruments of torture.

Front desk did not address screaming children playing in hallway, banging on doors until our second complaint. Stains on couch, couch pillows smelled. TV outage during the morning. Would not stay here again.
