General Francis Marion Hotel

Stayed for family trip, such a cozy inviting hotel! Will stay again!

Great stay. Our family booked 4 rooms to attend my son’s graduation and this was by far the best option we could find to book. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel and great service we received from Zach at the front desk. Comfy beds, clean rooms and bathrooms in this quaint historic hotel.

Think about what a hotel would be like in Mayberry. This is it! And the charm of Marion will captivate you. Probably not a place to take small children, but a great place for a getaway for anniversary, popping the question, or just get your head together. This is a great hotel where you can step back in time

This was booked for quick weekend trip to see family in the area. We chose this over an AirBnB for the ambiance of an adult couples weekend that was needed. The employees are nice but the great rating for the hotel was not what we experienced. The photos of the room were misleading about the size of the room. We arrived and were given keys to a corner front room. The diagonal door (which did not seal at the top) led to a room so small that 2 people could not walk around the perimeter of the bed. Opening the door to leave required a careful placement of the body and purse to get the door open. We attempted to have our family come up to the room to see the hotel and we could not fit 2 adults in the room with us. Ridiculous for the price.Thinking of redeeming the weekend with a bubble bath, it was disappointing to find that the tub was so shallow that using the tub was ridiculous. I am 5' tall and petite and the tub held water that would not submerge any part of that. So a shower it is after giving up the bath attempt. To find that there is almost NO water pressure to remove shampoo even though they did have quality toiletries in the room. Add to our stay was the joy of partygoers sharing our bedroom wall and also not having a door that seals. The building is vintage and the fancy furnishings are just a slight higher quality than Motel 6. The free Wi-Fi is spotty, and parking minimal. The flat screen Tv had very questionable picture quality. EXPENSIVE EXHAUSTION

We were there over Christmas weekend, so things were a bit "laid-back", even by Marion standards... everyone we encountered was extremely hospitable, which would probably keep us coming back, even if we didn't have family in the area! Hotel staff truly go out of their way to accommodate. Checking in and out took all of maybe 30 seconds. The free continental brunch is convenient, but I do miss the Sunday brunch!

The hotel was very clean and lovely. It was a fun place to stay near restaurants in downtown Marion. The family room with 2 Queens was sizable. The heater was broken in our room, which seems like bad luck. They did offer another room for us to shower in the next morning after we asked for a space heater, but we decided to get on the road. The breakfast is pretty spare, but we had a lovely breakfast at Sisters just down the block.
